Michael Bublé didn’t just watch Brock Boeser go through a rough night last week - he reached out.
After the Canucks fell to the Detroit Red Wings, Boeser sounded raw and frustrated, saying, “It’s the same stuff game after game,” and adding, “I don’t know where the disconnect is, if guys in here aren’t listening to what the coaches are preaching on our style of play, or if some of our structure is not working, or what it is. It’s embarrassing.”
Bublé, who is one of the team’s loudest celebrity supporters and has built friendships with several players, especially Boeser, said he wrote to him after that postgame outburst.
“When Brock did the press conference the game before, I didn’t call him, I just wrote him,” said Bublé on CHEK TV’s Donnie & Dhali - The Team.
He followed that message with a full-throated show of support.
“I just said, ‘Hey, I get it. You’re frustrated and you’re disappointed and you want more.
But we’re not disappointed in you. We’re not disappointed as a fanbase.
We understand - we’re smart enough to know what a rebuild is. Yeah, we’d love to win more games, that would be great.
But we also know that you do work your ass off. We know this is part of the process.
Just keep your head up: don’t be so hard on yourself, man.'”
Bublé said Boeser sent back a “really nice message,” and he believes the note mattered.
“I think it meant something on a human level that his buddy says that,” said Bublé. “But they do take it personally, and I feel for them.”
He also pointed out that, for all the outside noise, the players are still wired to compete every night.
The organization is chasing a top pick in the 2027 draft as part of the rebuild, but that doesn’t make the losses any easier for the guys in the room. They’ve spent their whole lives trying to win.
Still, Bublé said he told Boeser not to bury himself in the slump.
“I said to Brock, ‘Hey dude, you’re going to string some together. You’re going to win some surprising games that people don’t expect you to,'” added Bublé.
That prediction proved true almost immediately. After a tough loss against Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild, Vancouver shocked Anaheim by erasing a three-goal third-period deficit and pulling out a comeback win.
Bublé said the reaction afterward told the story.
The bench and the room made it clear that the victory carried real weight for the group.
“Here’s what I know, as tough as it is, and it’s not a fun thing to lose, they’re a good group of guys,” said Bublé. “I think they really like each other, I think they believe in each other, I think they believe in the process and what’s happening go forward.”
For Bublé, that’s the bigger message here: the Canucks need patience, and so do their fans.
“My prayer is that no matter what this looks like or how tough it gets, we don’t lose focus on rebuilding the right way,” said Bublé, “that there isn’t a loss of patience or a panic button […] Stay the course.”

Former Canuck Carson Soucy's Sudden Slide Says Plenty
Carson Soucys path since leaving Vancouver has taken another sharp turn. After signing a one-year, one-way deal with Columbus following a professional tryout, the former Canucks defenseman has appeared in just seven games this season before the Blue Jackets decided to put him on waivers.
It is the kind of move that says plenty about how quickly a veterans standing can shift in the NHL, especially for a player trying to re-establish himself after a change of scenery. If Soucy is not claimed, the next stop would be the Blue Jackets AHL affiliate in Cleveland, which only adds to the uncertainty around where his season goes from here. [Read more 🡒]
Canucks Linked To Young Winger But The Trade Cost Could Sting
The Canucks are being tied to a young winger with a pedigree, and the appeal is easy to see. Any club that thinks it can buy low on upside will at least kick the tires on a player who once went in the first round and has had trouble carving out a regular NHL job.
The catch is that Washington does not sound eager to move him for a modest swap. The Capitals are said to be looking for a real return, with the price drawing comparisons to the Egor Chinakhov trade value, which could mean draft capital and a player or two leaving Vancouver if talks ever get serious. Canucks Skid Is Putting Several Veterans In Serious Trade Danger
The Canucks slide has put the front office in a familiar but uneasy spot, with Ryan Johnson facing pressure to shake up a roster that no longer looks settled. Vancouver is said to be open to getting younger while still adding NHL-proven help, a tricky balance that could force the team to consider veterans who looked like part of the solution not long ago.
Names already circulating around the league give this a far more consequential feel than a routine deadline rumor. Jake DeBrusk, Drew OConnor, Filip Chytil and Luke Schenn are among the players being discussed, and even Elias Pettersson has come up in the speculation as the organization weighs how far it is willing to go to reset the group.
