Let the rebuild begin in Vancouver.
The Canucks appear ready to embark on a significant roster overhaul. This isn't entirely new territory for them, given the recent trades involving J.T.
Miller and Quinn Hughes. Those moves seemed more reactive, addressing players who wanted out.
But now, it looks like GM Patrik Allvin and his team might be ready to take decisive action, no-movement clauses and all.
While it's uncertain how everything will unfold, there's buzz that some players are open to waiving their no-trade clauses for a fresh start elsewhere. Brock Boeser is the latest name in the mix.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Boeser might be willing to consider a trade if the destination suits him and his family. This comes just months after he signed a seven-year deal with the Canucks, which seemed to cement his future in Vancouver. But as we know, things can shift quickly in the NHL.
Boeser's performance this season hasn't lived up to expectations, with only 12 goals and 26 points in 51 games. Yet, his playoff performance in 2024, where he led the team with seven goals in 12 games, showcased his potential value.
Joining Boeser in potential trade talks is Tyler Myers, another Canucks player with a no-movement clause. Chris Johnston of TSN shared that Myers is in a wait-and-see mode, hoping other teams might step forward with interest. The Dallas Stars have been linked to Myers, and it seems he’d be open to playing there, which could offer him a shot at the Stanley Cup and proximity to family.
Meanwhile, Evander Kane is the most likely candidate for a trade in the near future. Unlike Boeser and Myers, Kane doesn’t have a no-movement clause or long-term ties to the team, making a trade more straightforward. Dreger suggests a deal involving Kane could happen in the next few days.
As the Canucks navigate these potential moves, the team’s future direction will become clearer. Fans should buckle up for what could be an eventful period in Vancouver's hockey landscape.
