Corner Canyon barely avoided becoming the latest upset victim in Utah’s 6A Region 3, and that was enough to keep the Chargers perched at No. 1 in this week’s High School On SI Mountain West Top 25.
The Chargers knocked off Lone Peak 37-14 after a third-quarter burst that changed everything in a hurry. Corner Canyon led by seven before a 12-second blitzkrieg stretched the margin to 30-7 with 5:56 left in the period.
Lone Peak, which had beaten the Chargers in region play in both 2024 and 2025, slid five spots to No. 13.
There was movement elsewhere too, with Jefferson breaking into the rankings after taking down defending 11AAA champion Brandon Valley 20-14 in South Dakota. Sioux Falls Christian also entered the Top 25, while Box Elder dropped out.
The new list once again pulls together the best from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Jaxon Pehrson powered one of the week’s most complete performances, running for three touchdowns, while Will Tenney finished things off with a 13-yard pick-six and 1:11 left to play.
Noah Fiefia did a little bit of everything in another rout, accounting for six touchdowns - four on the ground and two through the air - as the Riverhawks rolled past the winless Golden Eagles.
On the defensive side, the Knights were just as imposing, forcing three turnovers and holding Vallivue to minus-25 rushing yards.
The Trojans also handled business, building a 21-7 lead early and never letting the Bees fully back in it, even with three turnovers and a blocked field goal on their side of the ledger.
The Sentinels survived a shootout thanks to huge nights from Jaxon Hunt and Tyson Dunn. Hunt went 21-of-31 for 336 yards and five touchdowns, while Dunn piled up 200 yards and a score on 15 carries.
In a crosstown matchup, the Falcons came out on top despite surrendering both a pick-six and a kickoff return touchdown. Jagger Fountaine answered with 342 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Severe weather forced a pause in Saratoga Springs on Friday night, but Herriman was already in control, leading Westlake 28-7 when play was suspended late in the second quarter. When the teams resumed the next day, the Mustangs kept the pressure on, and Filisi Filipe added a 45-yard touchdown catch to go with the four rushing touchdowns he had already scored.
The Cavemen finished nonregion play by erasing an early 14-3 hole and scoring 23 straight points. Jace Worthington kicked three field goals, and Jake Matsen added two touchdown passes.
Naeata Hamilton scored twice on the ground, while Kamden Lopati threw two touchdown passes and ran for another for the Panthers.
For the Vikings, Maddox Lindquist delivered a big-play double, hauling in an 80-yard touchdown and returning an interception 30 yards for another score.
The Braves kept Lander Valley under wraps all night, allowing just 50 total yards. Ross Hilton was sharp in the passing game, going 15-of-22 for 218 yards and six touchdowns, with four of those going to Roman Erickson, who finished with seven catches for 144 yards.
American Fork had enough to turn away Lone Peak’s attempt at a third straight regular-season upset of the Chargers. The Knights made it interesting, pulling within 26-21 on Paden Toula’s second touchdown connection with Bode Sparrow, but they never found the equalizer.
The Rams also had a dramatic finish of their own after avenging last year’s Class A state final loss to Frenchtown. A week later, they gave up a last-second field goal by Luke Mack after taking the lead on a touchdown with less than two minutes left.
Owen Gilson threw four touchdown passes, including two to George Thurston, as the Trojans cruised.
The Chargers notched their third straight shutout, with Jude Prins jump-starting the scoring by returning a punt 50 yards for a touchdown.
Hu Alisa added production both ways for the Mustangs, running for two touchdowns and catching another score.
The Broncs kept their streak alive, but it took a late push. Dominic Destafano found Liam Weber for a 16-yard go-ahead touchdown with 2:46 left, and Braxten Crow sealed the win with an interception on Kelly Walsh’s final drive.
Jefferson’s entry into the rankings came after a final-minute defensive stand against the reigning 11AAA champs. Junior linebacker Dax Wachel dropped Brandon Valley with a fourth-down sack in the closing minute, and that play sealed the Cavaliers’ 20-14 victory.

Utahs dominant win over Utah State gave the Utes another early-season snapshot of what this group can look like when everything is clicking. After the game, Devon Dampier, Braden Pegan, Rabbit Evans and Cyrus Polu all talked about the strong start to the season and the way the offense has begun to settle in, while also pointing to the defenses shutout as a sign this team is already bringing a complete effort on both sides of the ball.
