Utah's offensive line is gearing up for a fresh chapter with the addition of Cedric Jefferson, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound transfer from Montana State. Jefferson is diving into his first camp as a Ute, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with stepping up to Big-12 football.
"It's a big change moving from FCS to FBS, especially in the Big-12, but I'm loving it," Jefferson shared. "The competition is intense, and being part of this team feels special. I'm excited about what we’re building here."
Jefferson notes that the jump in competition isn't just about talent. "Life here is more football-focused.
I spend more time at the facility, which is part of moving up from FCS to FBS. But I want to highlight the talent in FCS-there are plenty of players who could compete at this level.
Coming from a strong FCS program has been a great stepping stone."
After Montana State's FCS national title, Jefferson entered the transfer portal, seeking a program that felt like home. Utah fit the bill perfectly.
"The portal experience was hectic with all the calls and texts. I needed a place with strong development and competition.
Meeting Coach Gross and the staff, it just felt right. Salt Lake City reminds me of Bozeman, but on a bigger scale.
It felt like home."
Jefferson credits new offensive line coach Jordan Gross as a key factor in his decision. "Coach Gross is laid-back but straightforward. He tells you what you need to do and truly cares about us."
Having started every game at right tackle during Montana State's championship run, Jefferson's experience is invaluable as Utah looks to rebuild their offensive line. "There are big shoes to fill, but we're creating our own identity.
The competition is fierce, and everyone wants a starting spot. It's going really well."
With playing time up for grabs, Jefferson is focused on personal growth. "I want to get better, put on weight, and perfect my craft.
Building camaraderie with the team is crucial because I aim to be a leader. That's the ultimate goal."
