Lincoln Riley didn’t need a crowded quarterback board to find his guy in the 2028 class. He zeroed in on Trey Wright, and the Frisco Lone Star quarterback has done the rest with a junior season that keeps getting louder.
Wright, who was a three-star prospect in early August before being bumped to four stars, drew an offer from Riley and quickly moved to the top of USC’s list. A week later, he announced his pledge.
The Trojans never seemed bothered by the ranking attached to his name. They saw a quarterback built for Riley’s system, and they were willing to pass on highly touted local passers and other five-star options to get him.
The fit has only looked better as Wright’s production has exploded. As a sophomore in 2025, he piled up a nation-leading 5,826 total yards and scored 59 total touchdowns.
This fall, he has been even more efficient. Lone Star is 10-0, and Wright has accounted for 58 total touchdowns, including 42 through the air and 16 on the ground, while throwing just one interception.
Those numbers have him in the mix for MaxPreps or Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas, and possibly beyond that, too.
At 5-foot-11, Wright is more than just a quarterback with eye-popping stats. He’s a dynamic athlete who received Division I basketball offers as a freshman, and he keeps showing how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands. That was on full display Thursday night in Lone Star’s blowout win over McKinney North, when he ripped off a 56-yard touchdown run that had all the makings of a highlight-reel play.
The USC commit has also shown he can beat defenses from the pocket. In early October, he set his school record for passing touchdowns in a game with seven.
Wright remains the lone commit in USC’s 2028 class, but he has already made multiple trips back to campus this fall. He attended games against Oregon and Ohio State as he continues getting comfortable with Southern California and the program.
He’s also taken on a recruiting role of his own. As USC has hosted several blue-chip 2028 prospects for its biggest home games at the Coliseum, Wright has been part of the effort to help the Trojans keep building elite classes around their current freshman group.

USC Just Got Pulled Into A Fascinating Arch Manning Debate
Jayden Maiavas decision to return to USC and skip the 2026 NFL Draft gives the Trojans some needed clarity at quarterback, and it also keeps Lincoln Rileys offense in the conversation for another season. Maiava is likely playing his final games in cardinal and gold this year, which makes the long-term picture at the position worth watching even as USC focuses on the present.
That backdrop is part of why NFL Network draft scout Daniel Jeremiahs recent Arch Manning speculation landed with so much attention. Jeremiah floated USC as a possible landing spot if Manning ever entered the transfer portal, pointing to the Trojans offensive talent and Rileys history of developing quarterbacks. Nothing is official, and there is no indication Manning is on the move, but the mere idea of USC being mentioned in that kind of debate says plenty about the programs pull. [Read more 🡒]
USC Volleyball Finally Got The Reset Trojans Fans Needed
USC womens volleyball finally got the kind of clean reset it had been looking for, rolling past Rutgers in straight sets to snap a four-match losing streak. The Trojans looked sharper in all the areas that had been nagging them during the skid, hitting .351 as a team with 42 kills and 12 blocks while keeping Rutgers to a .133 hitting mark.
Mia Tvrdy, London Wijay and Adonia Faumuina were central to the response, giving USC the steadier, more complete performance it needed after a rough stretch. It was the sort of win that does more than just change the record for a night - it gives a team a chance to breathe, regroup and start building again with a little more confidence. [Read more 🡒]
Former Trojans Could Steal The Spotlight In USCs Off Weekend
USC may have the weekend off, but there is still plenty of Trojan flavor scattered across the NFL slate in Week 9. Five games feature former USC players who could end up shaping the conversation, with names like Caleb Williams, Leonard Williams, Uchenna Nwosu, Tuli Tuipulotu, Calen Bullock, Jordan Addison, Carson Wentz, Woody Marks and Makai Lemon all in the mix as the pro schedule fills the gap left by the college bye.
For USC fans, it is a reminder that the programs reach does not pause when the Trojans do. The spotlight could land on several former standouts in different matchups, and the appeal is obvious: even without a game in Los Angeles, there is still a chance to track familiar names making plays, swinging outcomes and adding another layer to the Trojans presence in the NFL this weekend.
