USC's Kannon Smith Poised for Impact in 2026 Lineup Shakeup

USCs 2026 offensive line prospects get a boost with multi-sport athlete Kannon Smith bringing a blend of talent and versatility to the Trojans ranks.

USC has been making strategic moves to bolster its offensive line depth over the past few seasons. This position is crucial, and it's not ideal to thrust young players into action out of sheer necessity.

Back in 2023, however, the Trojans had to do just that with talents like Elijah Paige, Tobias Raymond, and Alani Noa stepping up earlier than planned. While it was a challenge then, the experience has paid off.

Now, as we look ahead to 2026, USC is reaping the rewards with Paige, Raymond, Noa, Justin Tauanuu, and starting center Kilian O'Connor all returning. Even with the departures of veteran reserve Micah Banuelos and four-star freshman Alex Payne via the transfer portal, the Trojans are well-stocked with seasoned players ready to step up.

Chad Bowden and the Trojan front office have made a significant impact by recruiting big on the offensive line. They've added seven new linemen from the 2026 high school class, with Keenyi Pepe leading the pack as the highest-rated recruit. Esun Tafa and Vlad Dyakonov also bring impressive credentials, both securing spots within the Top247 final rankings.

One standout addition is offensive tackle Kannon Smith from Littleton, Colorado's Valor Christian. At 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, Smith comes in as a three-star recruit, ranked No. 67 at his position and the No. 10 player from Colorado.

Smith's athletic prowess extends beyond the football field. He excelled in multiple sports during high school, including baseball, basketball, and track and field.

Notably, he shone in shot put and discus, clinching first place at the Cherry Creek Invite with a shot put throw of 47' 11.00" and a discus distance of 131' 9.00". His achievements earned him a spot among Colorado Prep Varsity Track's Top Athletes for shot put.

Smith's versatility on the football field is equally impressive. As a freshman in 2022, he made his mark with five tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, contributing on both sides of the ball as Valor Christian reached the state championship game. His sophomore year in 2023 saw him rack up 30 tackles, including five for loss, one sack, four quarterback hits, two interceptions, and a pass breakup, earning him a place on the Colorado High School Athletic Association All-State Second Team.

In 2024, as a junior, Smith continued to impress with 32 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks, two quarterback hits, and two pass breakups. Valor Christian advanced to the CHSAA 5A State semifinals, and Smith once again secured a spot on the All-State Second Team.

With Smith and his fellow recruits, USC's offensive line is shaping up to be a formidable force, blending experienced veterans with fresh talent ready to make an impact.
