The USC women’s tennis team left San Francisco with a productive weekend at the annual Battle in the Bay, as four Trojans combined for nine wins across the event.
Two of those wins stood out right away: Lexi Wolf and Kiara Zabkova both picked up the first NCAA singles victories of their collegiate careers in the round of 32. Wolf handled Mille Johanna Moerk of California 6-3, 6-2, while Zabkova knocked off Pepperdine’s [2] #70 Chantal Sauvant 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Immi Haddad also opened with a win for USC, outlasting Yelyzaveta Chainykova of LMU 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Simone Kay, meanwhile, fell to Isabella Wong of UCSB 6-1, 6-1.
The Trojans’ singles run hit a tougher stretch in the round of 16. Zabkova was stopped by California’s Laura Cilekova 6-1, 6-1, Wolf lost to [3] Patricija Paukstyte of Georgia 6-3, 6-4, and Haddad was beaten by Lily Pradkin of UCSB 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Kay also dropped her consolation qualifying match to Purdue’s Reese Frank 7-5, 7-5.
USC did add more singles wins in Saturday’s extra matches. Haddad defeated Wong 6-4, 6-0, Kay beat Lera Alexin of Colorado 6-0, 7-6(5), Zabkova topped Soledad Fayos Capilla of SJSU 6-1, 6-3, and Wolf got past Priya Nelson of SMC 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, the Trojans also had their share of battles. Haddad and Wolf fell to Duke’s Claire An and Ava Krug 8-3 in the round of 16.
Kay and Zabkova then pushed Colorado’s Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo to a tight 8-7(6) decision in the quarterfinals before coming up short. Haddad and Wolf later lost 6-1 to Priya Nelson and Stella Remander of SMC.

USC Kept Its Playoff Hopes Alive But Pressure Just Spiked
The No. 19 Trojans are still in the conversation after rallying past Washington 25-21 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, but the margin for error has nearly disappeared. USC moved to 5-1 with the comeback win, a result that kept the season pointed in the right direction even as the broader picture remains complicated.
ESPNs projections still have USC lined up for the Las Vegas Bowl rather than the College Football Playoff, which is the kind of reality check that can follow even a big October victory. The next stretch will go a long way toward sorting that out, because several ranked opponents are still ahead and each one will carry real postseason weight for the Trojans. [Read more 🡒]
Minnesota Just Gave Fans A Reason To Believe Again
Minnesotas place in the Big Ten picture looks a little sturdier after a week that shook up the league from top to bottom. With Penn State and Michigan both taking surprising losses, the conference suddenly feels more open than it did a week ago, and the Gophers were among the teams that helped turn the conversation toward teams outside the usual powers. USCs win over Washington kept the Trojans moving in the right direction too, but the ripple effects around the league were impossible to miss.
The latest power rankings reflect just how much one weekend can change the mood around the conference, with Minnesota earning a bump from a result that gave its fan base something tangible to hang onto. There were also strong showings from Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Nebraska, adding to a Big Ten slate that felt as volatile as it has all season. For USC, the broader takeaway is simple: the path through league play may be less predictable than expected, and every week now carries a little more weight. [Read more 🡒]
Rodney Rice Just Gave USC Fans A Reason To Believe In This Backcourt
Rodney Rices name on the Preseason All-Big Ten team gives USC an early reminder that the Trojans may have more backcourt punch than people expected heading into the season. The senior guard earned the conference honor as the preseason awards were announced, becoming the first player under Eric Musselman to land that kind of recognition before the year even gets going.
For USC, it is a meaningful nod to a player who opened the 2025-26 season playing at a high level before shoulder surgery interrupted his momentum. Even with that setback, Rices presence on the list says plenty about how the conference views his ability, and it gives Trojans fans something concrete to hang onto as they wait to see how the backcourt settles once he is back in the mix.
