USC’s Chad Baker-Mazara Named to Julius Erving Award Midseason Top 10
The Julius Erving Award is one of college basketball’s most prestigious individual honors, reserved for the top small forward in the nation. And as we hit the midpoint of the 2025-26 season, USC’s Chad Baker-Mazara has firmly planted his flag among the elite. On Monday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame unveiled its Midseason Top 10 list for the award, and Baker-Mazara’s name is still standing strong.
And it’s easy to see why.
The veteran wing has been the engine behind the Trojans’ offense this season, leading the team with 18.3 points per game. He’s not just scoring-he’s doing it with consistency and flair. Baker-Mazara has hit double figures in all but three of USC’s 23 games so far, and he’s topped the 20-point mark nine times, including two explosive performances north of 30.
He’s not a one-dimensional scorer, either. The graduate student has been a well-rounded contributor across the board, averaging 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per contest. That kind of all-around production from the wing spot is exactly what this award is meant to recognize.
Baker-Mazara’s efficiency at the line has also been a difference-maker. He currently leads the Big Ten in free throw percentage-a critical stat for a go-to scorer-and ranks fourth in the conference in total points. His ability to cash in at the stripe and keep the scoreboard moving has been a key part of USC’s offensive rhythm.
And let’s not forget the spotlight moments. Baker-Mazara took home MVP honors at the Maui Invitational earlier this season, a tournament that often serves as a proving ground for players with All-American potential. He didn’t just show up-he showed out.
Now, as the race for the Julius Erving Award heats up, fans will have a chance to weigh in. Starting February 6, voting opens at hoophallawards.com, where fans can cast their ballots.
The fan vote will count as one official vote in the committee’s selection process. This Midseason Top 10 will eventually be trimmed down to five finalists.
For now, Baker-Mazara remains right in the thick of it. And if his season continues on this trajectory, don’t be surprised if he’s still standing when the final five are named.
