On3/Rivals ranks Smith as a three-star recruit, placing him at No. 606 nationally, No. 38 in his position, and No. 59 in California. His sophomore year saw him elevate his game further, amassing 896 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 190 carries, alongside 21 receptions for 167 yards, as per MaxPreps.
