As we gear up for the 2026 college football season, it's hard to believe Lincoln Riley is entering his fifth year at the helm of USC. His influence is evident across the Trojans' roster, with nearly every player being a Riley recruit, either straight from high school or via the transfer portal. But there's one player who stands out as a link to the past: cornerback Prophet Brown.
Prophet Brown, now a sixth-year senior, holds the unique distinction of being the last player from the Clay Helton era. His tenure at USC is a testament to his resilience and commitment, and he embraces his role as a veteran leader on the team.
After a recent practice, Brown shared his thoughts on being the longest-serving player on the squad. "It’s pretty awesome," he remarked, highlighting the importance of mentoring younger teammates and preserving the Trojans' storied culture.
"I’ve been here for all six of my years. That’s pretty rare nowadays in college football.
So I just try to spread that knowledge and experience and keep the SC culture alive."
Reflecting on his journey, Brown acknowledged the unexpected twists along the way. "Definitely didn’t envision it going this way, but I mean I’m blessed. You know, everything happens for a reason."
Last season was a challenging one for Brown, as an injury during fall camp sidelined him for the entire year. However, he managed to secure a medical redshirt, granting him one more opportunity to don the Cardinal and Gold. Now, as he prepares for what is likely his final college season, Brown is eager to make a significant impact on the field and finish his USC career on a high note.
