USC's recruiting efforts have taken a significant step forward with the commitment of Javon Vital, a dynamic three-star athlete from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Vital, who recently visited USC for the Trojans Olympics, is set to bring his multi-positional talents to Los Angeles, choosing the Trojans over programs like Houston, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and LSU.
Vital's decision wasn't just about football; it was a family affair. "They checked all the boxes," Vital shared, emphasizing the importance of recruiting his mother.
"Once they got with my momma, everything was cool. She loved the visit - the weather, coach Jones, everything.
It's an amazing place to be coming from where I come from."
The Trojans' offense and a personal meeting with head coach Lincoln Riley were pivotal in Vital's decision. "USC showed me how they will use me in different positions and make me the guy from day one," he said.
Riley's vision for Vital as a versatile offensive weapon was a major draw. "Speaking with coach Riley and him telling me how he's going to move me around in his offense... that was the most memorable part of that visit."
Standing at 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Vital is ranked as the No. 61 wide receiver in his class, but he's expected to play running back in Riley's system. His speed is notable, clocking a 10.79 in the 100 meters, showcasing his potential to create mismatches on the field.
Vital's relationship with USC running backs coach Anthony Jones also played a crucial role. "Me and coach Jones have a great relationship," he noted, highlighting the personal connections that are key in recruiting.
USC's recruiting momentum is undeniable, with Vital becoming the fifth commitment in just a week. He joins a growing class that includes offensive talents like Quentin Hale, Eli Woodard, and Drew Fielder, as well as defensive standouts such as Isiah Vandermade, Josiah Poyer, Danny Lang, Aaryn Washington, and Honor Fa'alave-Johnson.
Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports scouting analyst, praised Vital as a "multi-phase playmaker" with the ability to excel from the slot or backfield. Brooks highlighted Vital's creativity as a runner and his natural pass-catching ability, noting his potential as a big-play threat.
USC's commitment to building a diverse and dynamic roster is clear, and with Vital's addition, the Trojans are positioning themselves for an exciting future on the gridiron.
