Azzi Fudd is making the most of her final season in Storrs - and the Big East is taking notice.
The UConn guard was just named Big East Player of the Week for the third time this season, continuing a standout campaign that has her firmly in the conversation for WBCA All-American honors. While much of the national spotlight has (rightfully) shined on forward Sarah Strong - a frontrunner for both Big East and national Player of the Year - Fudd’s consistency, efficiency, and leadership have been just as crucial to the Huskies’ dominance.
Let’s talk numbers. Over UConn’s pair of wins this past week - against DePaul and Butler - Fudd averaged 21.0 points per game while shooting a scorching 51.6% from the field, 54.5% from deep, and 80.0% from the free-throw line. She also chipped in 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per contest, showcasing her all-around impact on both ends of the floor.
Her performance against DePaul was vintage Fudd: 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. She followed that up with 17 points, four assists, and three steals against Butler - another efficient, high-IQ outing from one of the most polished guards in the country.
And here's the bigger picture: UConn is now 25-0 on the season and 14-0 in Big East play. That win over Butler marked the program’s 33rd consecutive season with at least 25 victories - a staggering level of sustained excellence. Fudd’s fingerprints are all over that success.
In her 25 games this season, Fudd is putting up career-best numbers across the board: 17.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. She’s shooting 48.9% from the field, an elite 44.6% from three, and an almost automatic 94.9% from the line. That’s not just good - that’s elite efficiency in every scoring zone.
She also hit a personal milestone this week, playing in her 100th career game during the win over DePaul. The Huskies are 93-8 in games she’s played - a testament to the impact she’s had on the program since stepping on campus.
If Fudd earns WBCA All-American honors, she’ll be inducted into UConn’s prestigious Huskies of Honor program - a fitting capstone to a career defined by resilience, growth, and big-time performances in big moments.
Around the Big East, several other players earned recognition this week. Creighton’s Grace Boffeli, Marquette’s Skylar Forbes, Providence’s Sabou Gueye, St.
John’s Sa’Mya Wyatt, and Villanova’s Jasmine Bascoe were all named to the conference honor roll. Meanwhile, Creighton guard Ava Zediker took home Big East Freshman of the Week honors.
Up next, Fudd and the top-ranked Huskies will host Zediker and the Bluejays on Wednesday at Gampel Pavilion - another chance for UConn to keep the streak alive, and for Fudd to continue building on a legacy that's already one of the most impressive in recent program memory.
