UConn’s attention this week is on the road trip to Miami (Ohio), but the Huskies also got a small future-schedule update that changes one piece of their 2029 slate.
UConn will head to Oxford on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff against the Redhawks, who are 1-2 after a rough 35-31 loss to Cincinnati.
Miami once held a 21-point lead in that game before letting it slip away. The Huskies, meanwhile, are coming off a big win over Southern Mississippi and sit at 2-1.
There’s some familiarity in this matchup, too. UConn head coach Jason Candle has faced Miami multiple times over the years, including in the 2023 MAC Championship game. During his run at Toledo, Candle went 3-1 against the Redhawks, with that championship game serving as his only loss.
The bigger long-range note came earlier this week, when UConn learned that its 2025 meeting with UMass never happened because UMass joined the MAC and had to amend its schedule. That game has now been pushed to Aug. 25, 2029 in East Hartford.
With that change, the Huskies’ 2029 schedule is starting to take shape. UConn currently has five home games lined up against Wyoming, Duke, Boston College and Southern Miss. On the road, the Huskies are scheduled to face Purdue, Rutgers and Buffalo.
The full 12-game schedule isn’t complete yet, and more dates will be filled in later.
Elsewhere around UConn football, alum Joe Fagnano is now with the Baltimore Ravens after helping rewrite the record book with his quarterback play in 2025. He’s listed as the third-string quarterback behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, and there’s at least some curiosity about whether a quarterback-needy team might try to trade for him and move him up a depth chart.
That idea isn’t coming out of nowhere, either. Through two weeks this season, the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears have already had to turn to their backups at some point. Fagnano also led the NFL in passing yards and completions in the preseason, and after seven years of college football, he brings plenty of game reps and experience with him.

UConns Conference Future Just Got A Lot More Complicated
Reports surfaced this week that UConn football is being tied to a football-only return to the American Athletic Conference, a development that would reshape the programs long-running independence without touching the Huskies other sports. The idea comes with Miami of Ohio and James Madison also pursuing full membership, adding another layer to a conference picture that has been anything but static.
But the UConn side of the story is still murky. Athletic director David Benedict said he was never contacted about the report and was unaware of any such plans, leaving the Huskies with no clear indication that a move is actually in motion. UConn Let A Winnable Road Game Slip Away Late
UConn had a road game in reach before it slipped away late in a 24-21 loss to Miami (Ohio), a result that will sting because the Huskies had enough offense to make it a very playable afternoon. Kalieb Osborne did his part, throwing for 215 yards and a touchdown while adding 68 rushing yards and another score, giving UConn a balanced enough attack to stay in it against a Miami team that kept answering.
The RedHawks leaned on David McComb, who was sharp while he was in the game, completing 19 of 29 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns before leaving injured.
