UConn Huskies Celebrate Big East Triumph with Eye on More Glory

UConn's undefeated season and dominant win over Georgetown underscore their championship prowess, as they continue their quest for multiple titles.

The UConn Huskies women's basketball team celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday night, clinching the Big East regular-season championship with a commanding 84-52 victory over Georgetown. As the final buzzer sounded, the scene at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn., transformed into a festive celebration. The team donned commemorative T-shirts and stood proudly as blue and white confetti cascaded from above, marking a season of dedication and success.

For legendary coach Geno Auriemma, now in his 41st season, this celebration is a familiar sight. Yet, the joy of witnessing his players experience this triumph for the first time never grows old.

"It doesn't matter how many conference championships you've won," Auriemma shared. "There's a lot of excitement for those kids who have never experienced this before.

That's kind of what makes it fun."

Azzi Fudd, a key player from the 2025 national championship team, captured the moment perfectly. Speaking to TNT Sports, she expressed the essence of being part of the UConn legacy.

“You come to UConn to win a championship,” said Fudd, now a graduate student. “All of them.

First the regular season, then the Big East tournament, and then the national championship. To be able to accomplish this with this team during my last year is special.”

The Huskies secured the Big East title with a previous victory over Villanova, setting the stage for what could be an extraordinary postseason. As they gear up for their final regular-season game against St.

John’s at Madison Square Garden, the Huskies boast an impressive 30-0 overall record, including a perfect 19-0 in conference play. Anticipation is high for this matchup, with a large crowd expected to witness the clash.

St. John’s enters the game with a solid 21-9 record, 11-8 in the Big East.

However, the Huskies handed them a decisive 88-43 defeat earlier this season. UConn's dominance is further underscored by their victories over five ranked opponents, maintaining an average winning margin of 20 points per game.

St. John’s, meanwhile, has a notable win against then-No. 18 Oklahoma State, though the Cowgirls have since dropped from the rankings.

UConn's consistency is remarkable. They have captured both regular-season and conference titles every year since 2014.

Their victory over Georgetown extended their record to 59-6 against the Hoyas, with the Huskies winning the last 42 matchups. Georgetown's last win over UConn dates back to February 27, 1993.

Statistically, the Huskies lead the nation with an average of 24.0 assists per game, recording 20-plus assists in 28 games this season. They've also won 66 consecutive Big East games, including tournament play, and have achieved at least 25 wins for the 33rd straight season. Their presence in the AP poll for a record 622 consecutive weeks speaks volumes about their sustained excellence.
