UConn is putting a familiar name on its basketball uniforms, and it’s a move the school is framing as both a business play and a nod to a long-running relationship.
Beginning in the 2026-27 season, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will wear a UConn Health patch below the neckline, alongside the Big East logo and the Nike swoosh. The announcement came Friday as UConn Athletics continued its push to create more revenue opportunities, following a path several schools around the country have already taken with jersey patch sponsors.
Athletic director David Benedict called the arrangement a step forward for a partnership that has already been in place for years.
“UConn Health has long been a trusted partner of UConn Athletics, and we’re thrilled to take this relationship to the next level,” Benedict said in a release. “Both UConn Basketball and UConn Health are Connecticut staples, and each is defined by a commitment to excellence, whether that’s in the care of our student-athletes or on the court.
“Having the UConn Health name on our men’s and women’s basketball uniforms is a proud moment for us, and we look forward to continuing to work together for our student-athletes and communities across the state.”
The university did not disclose how long the agreement runs or how much money it will bring in, but it did describe the deal as “among the largest integrated sponsorships in program history.”
UConn Health already serves as the primary medical care provider for UConn Athletics, and the relationship comes with more than just the jersey patch. According to the release, UConn Health “will continue to enjoy additional benefits, such as in-venue signage and radio advertising, associated with its existing sponsorship with UConn Athletics’ multimedia rights partner, Learfield.”
Dr. Andrew Agwunobi, CEO of UConn Health, said the connection between the two sides goes back decades.
“Our physicians have cared for UConn student-athletes in a partnership spanning three decades,” Agwunobi said. “UConn’s championship basketball programs and UConn Health’s award-winning care both reflect what can be achieved through talent, teamwork and dedication. We are proud to see our name on the uniforms and look forward to building on this partnership to promote health and wellness across Connecticut.”

UConn Syracuse Could Hinge On One Frustrating Problem Saturday
Saturdays meeting in East Hartford has the feel of a game where the cleanest team could be the one that gets the early edge. UConn enters at 2-2 with a few more questions than answers after a start defined in part by discipline issues, and Syracuse brings the same kind of baggage into noon ET kickoff. Both sides have been fighting flags all season, and for the Huskies, that makes this one less about style points and more about who can avoid shooting itself in the foot.
Syracuse comes in with quarterback decisions adding another layer to the matchup. Fran Brown is sticking with Steve Angeli to start despite recent interceptions, while Amari Odom is also expected to see the field, leaving the Orange with some uncertainty under center as they try to steady a team already battling through mistakes. For UConn, the opportunity is obvious: if the Huskies can play a cleaner game than they have for much of the fall, they may be able to turn a frustrating problem into a very real advantage. UConn Could Land A Rare National Spotlight For A High Stakes Game
UMasss strong start has given the upcoming meeting with UConn a little more juice than a typical fall nonconference game, and it now has the kind of buzz that can pull in an outside audience. The Huskies have had a mixed run so far, but the matchup is drawing attention beyond the usual campus circles because of the stage it could create in Hartford.
Dave Portnoy, who fronts the Barstool College Football Show, has shown interest in taking the show to Hartford for the UMass-UConn game, and UConn athletic director David Benedict has already welcomed the idea publicly. For a program still trying to build momentum and visibility, the possibility of a national pregame spotlight adds another layer to a game that already carries some intrigue. [Read more 🡒]
