Madison Booker Shines Again as No. 2 Texas Rolls Past Northwestern State to Stay Unbeaten
AUSTIN, Texas - Madison Booker is playing like someone who’s not just in the zone - she is the zone. The sophomore star matched her career high with 28 points on Wednesday night as No. 2 Texas steamrolled Northwestern State, 96-38, to stay perfect on the season and extend their home win streak to 33 games.
Booker continues to look every bit like a national player of the year candidate - and the numbers back it up. She knocked down 12 of her 17 shots from the floor, including a pair from deep, and she’s now averaging 27.7 points over her last three games while shooting a blistering 71.7% (38-of-53). That’s not just hot - that’s scorching, especially for someone who’s drawing top defensive attention night in and night out.
Texas, now 13-0, had full control from the opening tip, and the supporting cast made sure the scoreboard reflected it. Jordan Lee chipped in 15 points, including a stretch in the third quarter where she buried three straight triples that helped blow the game wide open.
But the engine behind it all? Rori Harmon.
The junior point guard was everywhere - finishing with 11 points, 10 assists, and a career-best seven steals. And she did it all while committing just one turnover.
That kind of floor generalship is why she leads the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 5.11. Harmon’s fingerprints were all over the game, dictating tempo, creating easy looks, and turning defense into instant offense.
Off the bench, Kyla Oldacre brought a double-double of her own - 12 points and 12 boards - giving the Longhorns a strong interior presence and keeping the pressure on Northwestern State’s frontcourt throughout the night.
What makes this run even more impressive is that Texas has done it with a short-handed roster. They've already taken down ranked teams like UCLA, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Baylor - all while operating with a seven-player rotation due to injuries. But reinforcements are starting to arrive.
Ashton Judd, who transferred in from Missouri, made her Texas debut after missing time with a knee injury. She looked sharp in limited minutes, scoring nine points in 13 minutes - a promising sign for a team that’s already clicking.
Bryanna Preston, the backup point guard behind Harmon, could return as early as Sunday when Texas travels to South Dakota State. Freshman Aaliyah Crump is also expected back by the end of the month.
On the other side, Northwestern State’s struggles were evident early. The Lady Demons came in averaging 18 turnovers per game, and Texas’ aggressive defense made sure they met - and exceeded - that mark.
Northwestern State turned the ball over 17 times in the first half alone, and finished with 28 giveaways, which Texas turned into 32 points. Vernell Atamah, the Lady Demons’ leading scorer, was held to just 12 points - nine below her season average.
For Texas, it’s another statement win in a season full of them. The Longhorns are defending their home court with authority, and they’re doing it with a mix of star power, depth, and defensive intensity that’s becoming their calling card.
What’s next:
Northwestern State returns home to face Lamar on Sunday.
Texas hits the road to take on South Dakota State - and with Judd back and more help on the way, the Longhorns are only getting stronger.
