North Carolina Just Lost A Recruiting Battle Fans Were Watching

UConn's basketball program lands another significant victory with the commitment of elite 2027 prospect Jordan Page, joining forces with fellow five-star NaVorro Bowman Jr. as they aim to build a formidable team under Coach Dan Hurley.

UConn keeps stacking elite talent in its 2027 class, and this time Dan Hurley landed a wing who checks plenty of boxes.

Jordan Page announced Sunday that he is committed to the Huskies, adding another five-star name to a recruiting haul that is starting to look loaded. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound wing out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., originally from North Carolina, is ranked No. 10 overall in his class and No. 3 among players at his position by 247Sports.

Page becomes the second five-star to join UConn’s 2027 group, following combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr., who made his decision last month.

His recruitment had been tracking toward Chapel Hill for a while. Page took official visits in September to both North Carolina and UConn, with the Tar Heels viewed as the early favorite. But UConn made a strong enough impression on the gifted athlete during his visit to Hurley’s program to swing things the Huskies’ way.

What makes Page such an intriguing addition is the way his game fits a high-level team concept. Adam Finkelstein, CBS Sports’ Director of Basketball Scouting, pointed to his length and two-way ability as the standout traits.

“The key for Page is playing within the flow offensively,” Finkelstein wrote in his summer evaluation of the prospect. “He's more of a natural connector than offensive alpha. He doesn't have much wiggle off the dribble, needs to improve his right hand, isn't yet a secondary handler or overly polished at using ball screens and could better leverage his physical tools in the lane.

“His shooting mechanics suffer, particularly with his footwork, when he starts settling for rushed or contested shots. In short, he projects as someone who should be capable of keeping the dominos falling once they start but is not yet a primary playmaker.”

Finkelstein also made the case that Page looks tailor-made for the way Hurley wants his teams to operate.

“Page may be the best natural fit for what UConn emphasizes on a daily basis,” Finkelstein wrote a 247Sports scout and fit article. “First, he checks all of the necessary boxes from a competitive character standpoint. The bar is high at UConn, in terms of what Hurley expects on a day-to-day basis, and Jordan is going to be able to meet that standard with the way he goes about his work.

“Secondly, he's a team-first player whose game is best suited when he is surrounded by other good players. He's not someone who is going to need a requisite number of shots or offensive volume, because he understands how to impact winning both with and without the basketball.”

Dan Hurley Just Drew A Hard Line In UConn Scheduling

Dan Hurley has made it clear that UConns non-conference planning is getting more selective, with the Huskies steering away from multi-team events and a certain kind of opponent profile as he shapes the schedule. Speaking at Big East Basketball Media Day, Hurley also voiced reservations about matching up with teams that feature players with G League experience, signaling a harder line in how UConn is choosing its early-season tests.

Even with that caution, the Huskies are hardly backing off from big-name competition. Their schedule already features marquee games against Michigan, Duke, Virginia, Kansas, Arizona, Ohio State and Illinois, which means UConn will still have plenty of spotlight matchups before league play begins. The larger question now is how much Hurley wants those games to reflect pure high-major power over the newer, more unpredictable mix college basketball has seen in recent years. [Read more 🡒]

Dan Hurley Is Building A 2027 Class UConn Fans Can't Ignore

The early work on UConns 2027 recruiting class is already turning heads, and it got another boost when Jordan Page announced his commitment to Dan Hurleys program. The 6-foot-5 wing from Raleigh is ranked No. 10 in the class by 247Sports, and his pledge gives the Huskies another high-end piece to pair with point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. in what is shaping up as a loaded group.

What makes this haul stand out is the company UConn is keeping at the top of the recruiting board. For the first time in at least 20 years, the Huskies have two ESPN five-star recruits in the same class, a sign that Hurleys pitch is landing with elite prospects early. Pages decision also came after choosing UConn over programs such as UNC, with the championship standard in Storrs clearly carrying weight in the recruitment. [Read more 🡒]

Jim Mora Just Made A Drastic Move To Fix Colorado State's Defense

Colorado States defense took a sharp turn amid a rough afternoon against Oregon State, and the change came quickly enough to signal how urgent things had become. After a 56-26 loss, head coach Jim Mora said defensive coordinator Tyson Summers had been taken off play-calling duties during the game, a move that came after Summers had been retained on staff following his stint as interim head coach last season.

Moras postgame update made clear the situation had moved beyond a simple in-game adjustment, with Summers no longer part of the program after the loss. For a staff trying to stabilize a defense that just got overwhelmed, the decision leaves Colorado State with a major question to sort through as it looks ahead to what comes next. [Read more 🡒]
