Dan Hurley Breaks Silence On Luke Murray Departure

Dan Hurley lauds Luke Murray's Boston College appointment amidst UConn's Sweet 16 showdown, reflecting on their impactful partnership.

In a pivotal moment for UConn men's basketball, assistant coach Luke Murray is set to take on a new challenge as the head coach of Boston College. This announcement comes just as UConn gears up for a high-stakes Sweet 16 matchup against Michigan State.

Murray, a key figure in Dan Hurley's coaching staff, will stay with the Huskies until their NCAA Tournament journey concludes. Hurley, expressing his support on social media platform X, praised Murray's achievements and potential.

"BC is Back! This guy is the best," Hurley shared.

"Will miss him greatly but so proud and happy for him. Long overdue opportunity.

Good Bye Champ!"

Associate head coach Kimani Young echoed these sentiments, encouraging Murray to "BE GREAT" in his new role.

Murray's journey with Hurley began long before their time at UConn. The son of actor Bill Murray, he started his Division I coaching career under Hurley at Wagner College and later moved with him to Rhode Island in 2013. His coaching path took him to Xavier and then to Louisville with coach Chris Mack in 2018, before reuniting with Hurley at UConn in 2021.

As UConn's "offensive coordinator," Murray played a crucial role in shaping the team’s top-ranked offense during their impressive 2023-24 season. His strategic acumen has earned him a reputation as one of the brightest assistant coaches in the nation. Hurley has been a vocal supporter of Murray and Young, advocating for their advancement to head coaching positions.

"Look what they've helped us do here," Hurley remarked earlier this month. "I want those guys to get jobs where they have a chance to win. They're compensated well enough here, and they love working together, so it doesn't make them fidgety or panicky to get out of here."

As Murray prepares for his new role, his contributions to UConn's success will be remembered, and his future at Boston College is eagerly anticipated.
