Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was the target of a home invasion at his residence on Saturday, according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident reportedly happened around 5 a.m. Barkley and his family were not injured during the burglary attempt, and authorities said they are still working to identify those responsible.
“The Chester County District Attorney's Office is aware of a home invasion that occured at the residence of NFL Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, in Tredyffrin Township earlier this morning,” the statement read.
“We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injureed during this incident. We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5 a.m. ,,, This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Chester County Detectives are assisting Tredyffrin Township Police Department as the investigation continues.”
Police also released a photo of a white SUV that may have been involved. Capt. Tyler Moyer said officials believe more than one vehicle was part of the incident.
“We know there's more than one, but we're still trying to determine how many were involved,” Capt. Tyler Moyer said as per NBC Philadelphia.
Barkley’s rise to this point has been a long one. The Giants took him with the No. 2 pick in 2018, and he spent six seasons there, piling up 5,211 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns. New York reached the playoffs only once during that stretch, losing to the Eagles in the divisional round in 2022.
In 2023, the Giants used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Barkley. The three-time Pro Bowler signed it after an adjusted $2 million signing bonus, plus other incentives.
He then landed with Philadelphia in 2024 on a three-year, $37.75 million contract and delivered a huge season, rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns. That made him the ninth running back in NFL history to top 2,000 rushing yards.
Barkley later helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX and then agreed to a two-year, $41.2 million extension.
Last season, he ran for 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games as the Eagles finished 11-6 and lost in the wild-card round to the 49ers.
