The top of the 2027 basketball recruiting board just got a shake-up, and Cayden Daughtry is the name making the loudest noise.
With summer live evaluations wrapped and video work still to come, the rankings process usually waits for August. Not this time. After what was seen firsthand this month, the top of the list had to move now, and that means a fresh top 10 is out ahead of schedule.
Daughtry’s surge is the headline. Two weeks ago, the discussion at No. 1 centered on Beckham Black and CJ Rosser, with Marcus Spears Jr.’s reclassification already part of the backdrop.
At that point, Daughtry was already in the mix as one of the best high school players right now. One week later, he’s pushed himself into a different tier entirely after a historic EYBL run.
He finished as the league’s leading scorer, won MVP, and helped his team win the championship. That kind of summer has vaulted him into the top three, and 247Sports says that rise is unprecedented for a player his size at 6-foot, 155 pounds.
Black, for now, holds the top spot. He was already No. 2 behind Spears, and his summer on the EYBL circuit was strong enough to keep him there. Before that, he had started at point guard and was the only high school player named to the All-Star Five at the FIBA U17 World Cup in Türkiye.
Rosser sits at No. 2.
He made a major statement in the gold medal game of that event and earned second team all-tournament honors. He then had a couple of big outings in Las Vegas, but not enough to pass Black.
Even so, Rosser remains one of the class’s most naturally gifted prospects, and the fact that he and Black are high school teammates at Orlando (Fla.) Southeastern Prep only adds another layer to the race.
