The Oregon Ducks are still dealing with the fallout from UCLA’s surge, and now another recruiting storyline is starting to carry real flip watch energy.
Four-star linebacker Toa Satele, an Oregon commit, is expected to visit UCLA, according to national recruiting analyst for On3/Rivals Steve Wiltfong on Oct. 22.
Wiltfong wrote, "UCLA has the Rivals No. 17 ranked recruiting class in the 2027 cycle and it’s looking to add to it. Oregon linebacker commit Toa Satele is expected to attend and after beating the Ducks on the field, Bob Chesney and his staff want to get another victory over the Bruins on the trail," wrote Wiltfong.
That trip matters because UCLA has already beaten Oregon where it hurts most. The Bruins stunned the Ducks 17-15 in Eugene on Oct. 10, knocked Oregon out of the top 25, and then followed that up by beating Oregon again on the recruiting front with this latest development.
Satele isn’t the only Oregon target with the Bruins in the mix. Four-star quarterback Josiah Boyd, a 2028 prospect from Vista del Lago High in Moreno Valley, California, moved up his commitment timeline and is now set to announce on Oct.
- He had originally been targeting a late November decision, but now his live commitment will come at noon PT, right as Oregon kicks off against Illinois.
Boyd’s list still has multiple programs in play. Kentucky, where former Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein is now leading the charge, remains a contender, and UCLA has also stepped up its pursuit of the dual-threat quarterback, according to multiple reports. If Boyd lands elsewhere, Oregon would miss on another major 2028 passer, after Ohio State landed five-star Christopher Vargas and USC took three-star Trey Wright over the summer - both players Oregon had offered early.
For Dan Lanning and his staff, the bigger-picture concern is obvious: UCLA’s momentum is showing up on the trail. Oregon has avoided major recruiting damage this cycle compared to last year, when five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley, four-star quarterback Jonas Williams and four-star defensive tackle Tomuhini "Tom Tom" Tupoi became notable losses for the Ducks. Williams and Tupoi ended up at USC, while Wesley flipped to Texas.
Now Oregon may need to fight to hold onto Satele, with defensive line coach Tony Tuioti serving as the primary recruiter. Inside linebackers coach Brian Michalowski, defensive coordinator Chris Hampton and Lanning likely all need to get involved again and reinforce the Ducks’ pitch before this turns into another loss.

UCLA Fans Have A New Freshman To Believe In Right Away
Nikola Kusturica wasted no time making his presence felt in his first UCLA appearance, giving Bruins fans an early look at why there is so much buzz around the 17-year-old Serbian freshman. In an exhibition game against Cal Baptist, he brought the kind of energy and defensive activity that fits right into Mick Cronins blueprint, with his length, motor and instincts immediately standing out in a setting that was supposed to be more about getting comfortable than turning heads.
For a program looking to build momentum heading into the new season, that kind of debut matters. UCLA has plenty to sort out before the games count, but Kusturicas first showing offered a glimpse of a player who could become a major part of the conversation much sooner than expected, and the excitement around him is already stretching well beyond the usual freshman hype. UCLA's Perfect Start Faces A Real Test Against Michigan State's Front
UCLAs undefeated start gets a sturdier measuring stick in Week 8, when Michigan State brings a front seven built to make opponents work for every yard. The Bruins have leaned on their ground game to set the tone, but this matchup will tell a lot about how well that formula travels against a defense that has been more than willing to challenge teams at the line of scrimmage.
The other side of the ball brings its own uncertainty for the Spartans, who are trying to keep the offense balanced after Cam Edwards injury changed the backfield picture. Jaziun Patterson has been a key part of that answer, but his status leaves Michigan State with a lingering question as it tries to protect quarterback Dieffenbach and stay on schedule against a UCLA team that has made a habit of forcing opponents to adjust. UCLAs Identity Suddenly Feels Like A Real Stretch Run Concern
UCLAs offense has spent much of the season leaning on a run game that has been one of the best in the country, averaging 231 rushing yards per game and ranking sixth in the FBS. But the last couple of weeks have looked a little different against Oregon and Wisconsin, and offensive coordinator Dean Kennedy has made it clear the Bruins are still committed to the same physical, downhill identity even as the production has slowed.
The bigger concern now is whether UCLA can clean up the details quickly enough to keep that approach humming in November. Kennedy has stressed the need for better execution, and the timing matters with Michigan State next on the schedule, a matchup that could help the Bruins reestablish their ground game if they can take advantage of the opening in front of them.
