Former UCLA Players Just Landed An Unexpected Shot After Football

As WWE seeks new talent among Polynesian athletes in Hawaii, former UCLA football players hope to follow in the legendary footsteps of wrestling's finest.

WWE’s latest search for future Superstars has landed in Honolulu, and the company is making no secret of what it wants to find: Polynesian athletes with the kind of size, athleticism and presence that can hold up in the ring.

At Blaisdell Arena in Hawaii, the tryout is underway as part of WWE’s 2026 Hawaii WWE Live Tour, with a number of hopefuls in the mix. Among the names drawing attention are two former UCLA offensive linemen, Yutake Mahe and Noah Pulealii.

Mahe spent five seasons at UCLA from 2021 to 2025 and appeared in 24 games for the Bruins. At 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds, he brings the kind of frame that immediately stands out for a wrestling tryout.

Pulealii was also at UCLA from 2021 to 2025, though his college résumé was shorter. He appeared in three games during his time with the Bruins.

For both players, the stop in Hawaii carries added meaning because of their Polynesian backgrounds. They’ll get a chance to learn from three of WWE’s biggest stars, Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso.

That connection matters in WWE’s world. Polynesian wrestlers have long been woven into the company’s identity, and the Anoa'i family has produced some of its most recognizable names, including Roman Reigns, The Usos, Fatu and Hall of Famers Yokozuna and Rikishi.

Mahe, Pulealii and the rest of the tryout group will also have access to instruction from several other WWE names, including Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, Bayley and more.

The path from college football to WWE is hardly unusual, and the company’s current roster includes several athletes who made that same leap. Roman Reigns played at Georgia Tech, Bron Breakker played at Kennesaw State and Trick Williams played at South Carolina.

And if the history books are any guide, football has produced plenty of WWE heavyweights before them. The Rock, Goldberg and John Cena all came through the sport before making their mark in wrestling.

UCLA Just Put Itself In Position For A Huge 2027 Backcourt Win

UCLA got an important look at one of the top guards in the 2027 class when five-star combo guard Jalen Davis made an official visit to campus as the Bruins continue to press their recruiting case. The Washington native is a highly regarded prospect with the kind of size and versatility that makes him a fit for the modern backcourt, and he has drawn serious attention from a national group of contenders while weighing what his next three years should look like.

For UCLA, landing in the conversation this early matters, especially with a recruit who can impact both ends of the floor and has the profile to become a program-changer. Davis is still sorting through a wide list of options, and the Bruins now have a chance to build on the visit and make themselves a real factor as the process moves forward. [Read more 🡒]

Indiana Is About To Face Its Biggest Playoff Test Yet

Week 7 brings a slate that could start sorting out the College Football Playoff picture, and UCLA is right in the middle of it with a home date against Wisconsin at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins are trying to navigate a stretch that has already put a spotlight on the depth and resilience of several contenders, and this one figures to tell a lot about how they hold up when the competition stiffens.

For UCLA, the matchup carries extra weight because it comes in the first real test without its starting quarterback. That turns a routine midseason game into a meaningful measuring stick for a team trying to stay relevant in a crowded playoff conversation, while also making the Rose Bowl stage feel a little bigger than usual.
