**TORONTO - In a thrilling showdown, Jalen Green made a daring drive to the net with just 45 seconds on the clock, aiming to bring his Phoenix Suns within two points of the Toronto Raptors. But Scottie Barnes, showcasing why he's in the conversation for NBA Defensive Player of the Year, had other plans.
He followed Green to the rim and delivered a game-changing block, sending the ball off the backboard. This defensive gem set up an RJ Barrett dunk on the other end, extending Toronto’s lead to 116-110.

Barrett, who hailed from Mississauga, was pivotal in the Raptors' 122-115 victory, contributing 22 points, including nine crucial ones in the fourth quarter. This victory marked Toronto’s first win against a team with a winning record since their January triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder-a span of 19 games.
“That was insane, it was crazy. I was literally right there,” Barrett said about Barnes’s clutch block.
“But those are the type of plays you need to win. Plays like that have been missing from our game recently.”
In addition to his scoring, Barrett grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists, helping Toronto (37-29) secure its fourth win in the last 10 games. The Raptors are now seventh in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat by just half a game, with 16 games left in the regular season.
Toronto's record against top-tier teams has been a challenge, standing at 4-18 against the NBA's top 10 this season. Meanwhile, Phoenix (39-28) holds the 11th best win percentage in the league.
“In many games, we’ve fought hard but just fell short. Tonight, we fought all night, and that’s the result,” Barrett reflected. “We were locked in and focused on our assignments.”
Brandon Ingram was the night’s top scorer with 36 points, including five three-pointers, while also pulling down seven rebounds for the Raptors. This performance was a breakout, considering he had totaled just 42 points over his last three games.
Ingram, who missed much of last season due to an ankle injury, played his 64th game of the season. It’s a milestone he’s only reached twice before in his career.
“You know, I haven’t played 64 games in a season for a long time,” Ingram shared. “It’s not always perfect, but it’s important to keep pushing forward. I can’t let my teammates see me with my head down.”
Despite battling an illness, Barnes finished with 14 points and six rebounds, demonstrating his commitment to the team.
“Scottie is all about the team, all about winning. He’s going through pain and sickness,” praised head coach Darko Rajakovic. “He gave everything he had today.”
Following a tough loss to New Orleans, where tensions flared late in the game, the Raptors held a team meeting to regroup. Barrett emphasized the importance of their win over the Suns, especially after the previous game’s confrontation.
“It’s a big-time win for us. We’ve hit a rough patch, and wins like that show who we are,” Barrett said.
“Proud of how the team played. Everyone contributed, and it’s a good one for us.”
