Raptors Lose Key Player Before Final Game Ahead of All-Star Break

With Collin Murray-Boyles sidelined again and Jakob Poeltls status uncertain, the Raptors face key lineup decisions ahead of their clash with the Pistons.

Raptors Injury Update: Collin Murray-Boyles Out vs. Pistons, Poeltl Questionable Ahead of All-Star Break

The Toronto Raptors will be short-handed heading into their final game before the All-Star break, as rookie forward Collin Murray-Boyles has been ruled out for Tuesday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons due to a lingering thumb injury.

Murray-Boyles initially injured the thumb in January, made his return on January 28, and logged six appearances before re-aggravating the injury during Sunday’s game against the Indiana Pacers. He played just eight minutes in that contest, contributing two points and a block before the discomfort resurfaced.

While the injury will keep him sidelined for the Pistons game, the Raptors and fans alike can breathe a bit easier - Murray-Boyles is still expected to participate in All-Star Weekend as part of the NBA’s Rising Stars showcase. That’s a good sign this isn’t a long-term concern. The league clearly sees his potential, and his inclusion in the young talent spotlight underscores the kind of impact he’s already made in limited time.

On the big man front, there’s a glimmer of hope. Jakob Poeltl is officially listed as questionable, but he’s been practicing with the team and showing encouraging signs in his recovery from a nagging back issue that’s kept him out since December. The injury reportedly dates back to training camp, and the Raptors have missed his interior presence on both ends of the floor.

If Poeltl isn’t cleared for action just yet, keep an eye on Trayce Jackson-Davis. The rookie made a strong impression in his debut against Indiana, posting a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in just 16 minutes, along with an assist, a steal, and a block. It was the kind of all-around effort that earns trust quickly - and with Toronto’s frontcourt depth tested, he could be in line for more meaningful minutes.

Sandro Mamukelashvili should also factor into the frontcourt rotation, especially if Poeltl remains out. Jonathan Mogbo could be in the mix as well, depending on his G League status, and don’t be surprised if Scottie Barnes logs some time at the five. Head coach Darko Rajakovic has had to get creative with his lineups this season, and Barnes’ versatility has been a key part of that flexibility.

With the All-Star break looming, the Raptors are looking to close out this stretch on a high note - even if they’ll have to do it without one of their most promising young players. The good news? The break couldn’t come at a better time for a team that’s been battling through injuries and lineup shuffles all season long.
