The Clippers and Raptors are moving ahead with the trade that would send Kawhi Leonard back to Toronto and bring Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and a package of draft assets to Los Angeles, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The teams still need to schedule the trade call with the NBA, Charania reported, and NBA insider Jake Fischer confirmed the deal is advancing. A source told Law Murray of The Athletic that the terms have not changed.
Under the agreement, Toronto would get Leonard. Los Angeles would receive Ingram, Dick, the Raptors’ 2031 first-round pick, the Raptors’ 2033 first-round pick, the Raptors’ 2030 second-round pick, the Raptors’ 2033 second-round pick and the right to swap first-round picks with Toronto in 2027.
The path to finishing the deal appears to have opened after Clippers owner Steve Ballmer accepted the NBA’s penalties for salary cap circumvention, after initially threatening legal action. The Athletic reported on Monday that people close to Leonard expected the trade to be finalized soon.
The original agreement between the teams came together in late June, but Toronto put it on hold on July 9 because of concerns the league’s investigation could lead to a suspension for Leonard or even void his contract. Instead, Leonard was fined $700K and his playing status was not affected.
Fischer also reported that Clippers general manager Trent Redden confirmed with Toronto on Monday that the trade was still on track. Redden is expected to run Los Angeles’ front office with Ballmer suspended for a year and president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank suspended for six months. The Clippers also lost five first-round picks, which makes the two picks coming from Toronto especially important for the future.
Leonard was named to the All-NBA second team last season after putting up a career-best 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting .505/.387/.892 in 65 games, averaging 32.1 minutes per game. The two-time Finals MVP is on an expiring $50.3MM contract, and Bobby Marks of ESPN tweeted that there is an expectation he will sign an extension with Toronto, where the most he can make is $126MM over two years.
Ingram made his second All-Star team in 2025/26 during his first full season in Toronto after he missed the second half of ’24/25. He is due $40MM this season and has a $41.9MM player option for ’27/28.
Dick is a former lottery pick who had a tough stretch last season after averaging a career-high 14.4 points per game in ’24/25. He can sign a rookie scale extension through Oct. 19, though a deal would be a surprise.
