The Toronto Raptors faced a tough night at Scotiabank Arena, dropping their second consecutive game in a 123-115 loss to the Sacramento Kings. This defeat couldn't have come at a worse time as the Raptors are in a fierce battle to secure a top-six spot in the Eastern Conference and dodge the Play-In Tournament. They find themselves in seventh place, sharing a record with the Philadelphia 76ers, who hold the tiebreaker thanks to a better division record.
Coach Darko Rajakovic didn't mince words post-game, highlighting the team's lack of intensity from the get-go. "We were trying, we were fighting back, we cut down the lead, but when you don’t approach the game from the start with the level of intensity and attention to detail that you need to have, this is the outcome," Rajakovic stated.
The Raptors found themselves playing catch-up for most of the game. Despite shooting an impressive 55% from the field, they struggled on the boards, being outrebounded 48-32, and gave up 16 points off turnovers.
RJ Barrett was a bright spot, leading the team with 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists, though he also committed five turnovers. Collin Murray-Bowles provided a spark off the bench with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Missing key players Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley due to injuries certainly didn't help Toronto's cause. Ingram is dealing with heel inflammation, while Quickley is sidelined with plantar fasciitis.
The Raptors will look to regroup and come out swinging as they prepare to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. It's a crucial stretch, and they'll need to bring their A-game to climb back into a secure playoff position.
