Victor Wembanyama has already done enough in the NBA to make people stop and stare, but Toronto Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic thinks the Spurs star’s ceiling goes far beyond that.
Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 French big man, arrived in San Antonio as one of the most hyped prospects the league has ever seen. In just three seasons, he has become the NBA’s best defensive player and shown an offensive package that doesn’t make sense for someone his size.
He can shoot it, put it on the floor and create for others. He also just led the Spurs to the NBA Finals in his third season.
Rajakovic didn’t hold back when talking about what Wembanyama could become.
“Victor Wembanyama is a unique player,” Rajakovic said on an interview with Basketball Sphere. “I think he will be in the category of players who change the game. He could very easily end up as the best player who has ever played basketball.”

That is a massive statement for a player who is still only three years into his NBA career, but it lines up with the belief around Wembanyama’s potential. The Alien reportedly brings unmatched motivation and discipline to the chase, and his production is already matching the hype. He averaged 25 points per game last season and won Defensive Player of the Year, a season that looks more like the beginning than the peak.
For now, Wembanyama has already checked plenty of boxes. If Rajakovic is right, the next chapter could put him in the same conversation as LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
