Ben Stiller may wear his Knicks fandom on his sleeve, but when it comes to RJ Barrett, he’s keeping a soft spot.
The actor was live-posting during New York’s preseason blowout loss to Toronto, and early in the game he made his position on Barrett pretty clear: “Always happy to see RJ get buckets.”
Stiller said he pulls for Barrett no matter where he plays, though he drew one line in the sand. His approval, he made clear, applies when the scoring comes in the “preseason.” Barrett finished with 17 points in 23 minutes against the Knicks.
That take landed with other fans too. One wrote, “I am only happy for him in the preseason!”
Another pointed to Barrett’s professionalism, saying, “He's a pro in every way.” A Raptors fan chimed in as well, replying, “Thanks[,] Ben[,] appreciate your love for RJ here in Toronto,” to Stiller’s post.
Barrett ended up in Toronto on Dec. 30, 2023, when the Knicks sent him, Immanuel Quickley and a 2024 second-round NBA Draft pick to the Raptors for OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn.
The move ultimately worked out for New York, with Anunoby helping the franchise capture its first championship in 53 years. His tip-in in Game 4 of the NBA Finals is already being talked about as one of the great plays in team history. Barrett, meanwhile, has settled into life with his hometown team; he was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
And he’s produced there, too. Barrett has kept his scoring pace close to what he posted with the Knicks, and during the 2025-26 season he averaged 19.3 points, 5.33 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
The Knicks took Barrett third overall in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Duke, after he had earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team and First-team All-SEC in 2019. Basketball runs in the family as well: his father, Rowan Barrett, played professionally and is now the general manager of the Canadian men’s national team.

Kawhi Sees A Raptors Identity That Could Be Brutal To Defend
Kawhi Leonards return to the Raptors is already changing the way the roster looks on paper, and not just because of what he brings as a scorer. Toronto has spent years leaning into versatility, and the presence of Scottie Barnes and Collin Murray-Boyles gives the team a defense that can switch, pressure and cover a lot of ground without having to reshape the whole lineup around one scheme.
For a team trying to build something sturdy for the 2026-27 season, that kind of length and flexibility can be a nightmare for opponents to sort out. The obvious question, as always with Leonard and several of Torontos key pieces, is health, because the idea of this identity is easy to picture while the challenge is keeping it intact long enough to matter. Darkos Early Message On This Raptors Rookie Really Stood Out
Allen Graves got his first taste of Raptors basketball in the preseason, and the early review came with the kind of encouragement Toronto likes to hear about a young player trying to carve out a role. In 15 minutes, the rookie showed enough activity to get noticed, finishing with 5 points, 3 rebounds and a steal while bringing the sort of defensive edge head coach Darko Rajakovic has been eager to see from a developmental piece.
Rajakovics praise centered on Graves effort and aggressiveness, even as the staff continues to evaluate how his speed and athleticism translate at this level. For a player seen as a long-term project with defensive upside and some promise as a three-point shooter, the first step is less about the box score than showing he can stay engaged and compete, and that part of the debut stood out. Raptors Just Made Their Center Problem Even Harder To Ignore
The Raptors have moved on from Trey Jemison III, waiving the center after a brief stint on a two-way contract. Jemison appeared in one preseason game, and his departure leaves Toronto with two open two-way roster spots as the front office continues sorting through the back end of the roster.
It also keeps the spotlight on a center group that already looked thin enough to merit attention. The Raptors have been linked to potential two-way candidates such as Nate Bittle, Jamarion Sharp, Nimari Burnett and even former first-round pick Christian Koloko, but no official signings have been reported, leaving the teams depth chart at the position still very much in flux.
