The Toronto Blue Jays' faithful have something to cheer about as Max Scherzer, the seasoned pitcher, reaffirms his commitment to the team. After the Maple Leafs' recent victory over the Anaheim Ducks, Scherzer joined Leafs Morning Take with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill to delve into his decision to re-sign with Toronto, reflecting on his first season and what drives him to continue his illustrious career.
Scherzer’s offseason journey was a waiting game, officially rejoining the Blue Jays’ roster on March 3 for the 2026 season. “There were a couple of teams that I could have signed with, but Toronto was always in my heart,” Scherzer shared.
“I’ve been through free agency enough to know how unpredictable it can be. I knew if Toronto was the destination, it might take time.
Thankfully, everything aligned, and here I am.”
What makes Toronto stand out for Scherzer? It’s more than just baseball; it’s about the community and lifestyle.
“The team, coaches, and staff - it was all a perfect fit,” he explained. “Living downtown made it easy for my family.
Toronto’s a fantastic place, both on and off the field. We nearly clinched the World Series last year, and I’m eager to chase that title again with this team.”
Scherzer's career is a testament to his prowess on the mound. With two World Series rings, three Cy Young Awards, eight All-Star appearances, and two no-hitters in 2015, he’s done it all.
Yet, his hunger for victory remains unquenched. “Winning the World Series is an unmatched thrill,” Scherzer expressed.
“Once you’ve tasted it, you just want more. That’s what fuels me every day - the pursuit of another championship.”
Despite his baseball commitments, Scherzer keeps an eye on the Maple Leafs’ schedule, particularly marking April 8. “I’ve got my sights set on the game against the Washington Capitals. I’m eager to catch Alexander Ovechkin in action once more,” he said.
Scherzer’s return to Toronto is not just a boon for the Blue Jays but a testament to the city’s appeal and the team’s potential. With his eyes set on another World Series, fans can expect nothing less than a thrilling season ahead.
