The Toronto Maple Leafs might be wrapping up what many would call a challenging season, but there’s a silver lining in the rise of Bo Groulx, who’s proving to be a genuine NHL talent.
After signing a two-year deal with the Leafs last offseason, Groulx spent the year lighting up the scoreboard with the Toronto Marlies. Even after his call-up, he continues to lead the team in scoring.
His time with the Anaheim Ducks didn’t quite pan out-just one goal and five points over 65 games-but since joining the Leafs, he’s turned a corner, notching three goals and five points in just six games. His primary assist on Dakota Joshua’s goal against the Hurricanes was another highlight.
Groulx spoke after the Leafs’ 4-3 overtime loss, acknowledging he still has room to grow but credits his newfound confidence for his recent success.
“I’m handling this opportunity with a lot of confidence,” he shared. “I know my capabilities at this level, and I’m proving it.
I had a couple of 2-on-1s on the PK that I’d like to redo. But I had some great shifts with Chelly [Matias Maccelli] and DJ [Joshua] in the offensive zone, and we managed to capitalize on one.”
On areas for improvement, Groulx noted he’s focusing on his faceoff skills and defensive awareness.
“If I can sharpen my faceoff game and read defensive situations quicker, I think I can really make my mark in this league.”
Groulx also reflected on how confidence has transformed his play in Toronto compared to his stint with the Ducks.
“Confidence is key,” he emphasized. “Without it, you make mistakes and play hesitantly.
I feel free out there now, playing alongside talented teammates. Scoring a few points and goals feels fantastic.”
As the Leafs gear up to face the Ottawa Senators, Groulx, originally from Gatineau, Quebec, is excited to perform in front of friends and family traveling to see him play.
“I played there at 23 with Anaheim and didn’t have my best game, so I’m hoping for a better outcome this time.”
