Kevin Gausman has made it clear: he wants to finish his career with the Toronto Blue Jays. At 35, Gausman has proven to be one of the most impactful free-agent signings in the team's history. As he gears up for the final year of his five-year, $110 million contract, the retirement hints he dropped in the offseason seem to have faded away.
With a solid 3.59 ERA over 193 innings in 2025, Gausman still has plenty of firepower. Although extension talks with the Blue Jays haven't kicked off yet, he’s definitely open to sticking around.
"I would love to continue to play for the Blue Jays. I love this organization, I love this city," Gausman shared in an interview with Foul Territory.
His connection to Toronto runs deep, from witnessing the growth of manager John Schneider to watching his kids grow up in the city. However, Gausman acknowledges the complexities of the business side of baseball.
"It's not always about what everybody wants. Sometimes it just goes back to what makes sense for both sides. We'll see what happens," he noted.
Gausman continues to be the ace in a formidable Blue Jays rotation. The team has bolstered its lineup by bringing back Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer, and signing key free agents Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce. With Trey Yesavage and Jose Berrios also in the mix, the Blue Jays have a wealth of options for their starting roles.
As Bieber and Scherzer approach free agency after the 2026 season, and with Berrios holding an opt-out clause, the door seems open for Gausman to extend his stay. But, as always, his performance in the coming months will be crucial in shaping his future with the team.
