Kevin Gausman gave Blue Jays fans something to talk about this Halloween.
With free agency looming this week and rumblings already building about a possible return to Toronto, the former Blue Jays pitcher added a little more intrigue when his wife, Taylor, posted a family trick-or-treating photo on Saturday night. Gausman could have gone in any direction with his costume, but he chose an Auston Matthews Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.
You can take Gausman out of Toronto, but it doesn't appear you can take the Toronto out of Gausman.
The exact location of the Halloween outing is still unclear. The photo doesn’t appear to have been taken in Toronto, which suggests the family may have been celebrating at Gausman’s offseason home in Louisiana.
Gausman’s final appearance for the Blue Jays came in August, before Toronto dealt him to the Chicago Cubs shortly ahead of the MLB trade deadline. The Jays weren’t viewed as a playoff club at that point and chose to move on from the pending free agent.
He went on to help a Cubs team that did reach the postseason, though the numbers weren’t pretty. In Chicago, Gausman put up a 4.83 ERA and a 4-3 record across 50.1 innings in the regular season, then dropped his lone postseason start. The Cubs were then swept by the San Diego Padres in the NL Wildcard series.
Toronto could still have a need for a pitcher like him heading into the 2027 season. The current rotation picture includes Dylan Cease, Trey Yesavage, and José Soriano as locks, with Cody Ponce, José Berrios, and Spencer Arrighetti among the arms who could join them.
Even with age creeping up, Gausman remains a dependable veteran and has still produced strong results. He also already knows the organization well, which only adds to the appeal of a possible reunion.
At the same time, a return isn’t a sure thing. Gausman recently put his $6.8 million Toronto mansion on the market, a move that could point him toward a different future.
For now, though, the Halloween jersey was enough to keep the speculation alive - and to remind Blue Jays fans that Toronto still seems to mean a lot to Gausman and his family.

Blue Jays May Have Found Their Best Rotation Upgrade This Winter
Michael Kings name has quickly moved into the conversation for clubs looking to bolster the top of their rotation this winter, and Toronto fits that group as well as anyone. After opting out of his Padres deal on Oct. 29, the right-hander is suddenly one of the more intriguing starters on the market, coming off a season in which he gave San Diego a heavy workload and steady results over 185 innings with a 3.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
For the Blue Jays, the appeal is obvious: they need pitching help, and King offers the kind of track record that can change the look of a staff. There has been no official signing or offer reported, but the fit is easy to see, which is why his market figures to stay worth watching as the offseason unfolds. [Read more 🡒]
Blue Jays Fans May Need To Let Go Of These Reunions
A familiar trio surfaced in Jim Bowdens early look at the 2026-27 free-agent class, with former Blue Jays Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber and Daulton Varsho all landing on his list of top names. For Toronto fans, it is the kind of reminder that the roster churn never really stops, especially when players who once mattered in the clubhouse and in the standings start popping up in future market projections.
The Blue Jays have reason to keep an eye on all three, but the fit is not as simple as nostalgia might suggest. Recent performance and injury history are part of the equation for each player, and Bowdens read points in directions that could make those reunions harder to imagine than some fans would like, leaving Toronto to weigh memory against the realities of what comes next. Blue Jays Suddenly Have A Bullpen Opportunity Worth Watching
A late-opening bullpen market just gave the Blue Jays something to monitor as they look for ways to deepen an already solid relief corps. Emilio Pagan is headed into free agency after declining his one-year player option with Cincinnati, and his name now sits near the top of the available relievers after a strong finish to the season.
For Toronto, the fit is obvious enough to keep in mind: the club already has a bullpen anchored by Louis Varland, but there is still room to add a right-handed setup arm who can handle high-leverage innings. Pagans second half made him one of the more interesting options on the board, and the question now is whether the Blue Jays decide to get involved before the market tightens further. [Read more 🡒]
