The Blue Jays moved quickly after the 2026 MLB Draft wrapped up, adding a batch of undrafted free agents, and one of the more interesting names in that group is Dax Dathe.
Dathe is a 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher from Round Rock, Texas, and his college path has been anything but direct. He pitched for five different programs before landing this opportunity with Toronto.
His first stop was the University of Houston, where his freshman year came during the COVID season. Dathe appeared in just three at-bats, collected one hit, and then moved on.
He spent the next two seasons at Grayson College in Denison, Texas, where he developed into a two-way player. After that came one year at Texas Tech, though he logged only 3.0 innings on the mound there.
Dathe then transferred to Division II Angelo State, and that’s where he really put together a strong run. Over two seasons, he was an all-conference pitcher. In 2025, he went 9-1 with a 2.99 ERA and 98 strikeouts across 72.1 innings, production that earned him a final year at LSU.
His time with the Tigers was brief. Dathe appeared in 12 games and threw 6.1 innings, giving up six runs for an 8.53 ERA while striking out nine. His outings were spread out, and he never quite settled into a rhythm out of the bullpen.
Still, Toronto saw enough in the full body of work to give him a shot. It’s a long road to this point, and the Blue Jays are betting that Dathe’s journey has left him with something worth developing.

Red Sox Suddenly Have A Bigger Connelly Early Concern Than Expected
Connelly Early has been on the Red Soxs 15-day injured list since July 1 with inflammation in his throwing elbow, and the latest update at least offered some reassurance on one front. A follow-up appointment did not turn up structural damage, which keeps the issue in the realm of recovery and discomfort rather than something more alarming for a pitcher Boston has been trying to manage carefully.
Even so, the bigger concern is how long this drags on for a club that needs every arm it can get through the summer. Early is still waiting for the discomfort to ease before he can get back to throwing, and the uncertainty around his next step leaves Boston with another reminder of how fragile pitching depth can be. Around the league, Max Scherzer is lined up for a rehab start with Torontos FCL team on Tuesday, while Jake Fraleys rehab has been stopped again because of complications tied to hernia surgery. Braves Fans Had One Big Reason To Watch Cam Caminiti Closely
The 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game arrived right after the start of the draft, giving prospect watchers another chance to size up some of the sports most talked-about young players. The American League beat the National League 6-1, but the real draw was the collection of names on the field, including Jess Made, Kade Anderson, Seth Hernandez, Cam Caminiti, Liam Doyle, Leo De Vries, JoJo Parker and Nathan Flewelling.
For Blue Jays fans, the Futures Game also offered a useful look at how much talent was packed into one afternoon, with several players making the kind of impression that keeps front offices and fan bases paying attention. Caminiti was part of that crowd, and so was Parker, whose work at the plate added to the sense that this showcase was less about the final score than about the next wave of big-league possibilities.
