In the intense world of MLB roster battles, the Toronto Blue Jays made a notable decision by parting ways with veteran right-hander Connor Seabold. After joining the Jays on a minor-league deal in January, Seabold brought his intriguing swing-and-miss potential into spring training, but the results were a mixed bag.
Seabold, who had stints with the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves last season, was vying for a coveted spot in the Blue Jays' bullpen. Unfortunately, his bid came to an end on Saturday when the team released him, just days before the season opener.
Last year, Seabold spent most of his time in Triple-A, yet he managed to strike out 10 batters and allowed five earned runs over 10 1/3 innings in the majors. His journey has taken him through the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies organizations, and even to the Samsung Lions in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2024, where he refined his command over 160 innings.
This spring, Seabold’s performance was a tale of two stories. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits across 6 2/3 innings, but his 13 strikeouts were hard to overlook, even if he wasn’t always up against the top-tier major league hitters.
While Seabold's immediate future with the Blue Jays seems uncertain, his spring showing could attract attention from other teams seeking pitching depth. His ability to generate swings and misses might just earn him another shot elsewhere in the league.
