Blue Jays Prospect Chad Dallas Finally Has A Chance To Stick

Chad Dallas, the Blue Jays' resilient pitching prospect, is gearing up for a pivotal opportunity to cement his status in the major leagues after a promising return from Tommy John surgery.

Toronto’s latest roster move may have opened the door Chad Dallas has been waiting for.

On Tuesday, the Blue Jays optioned rookie outfielder Yohendrick Pinango to the minors and recalled Dallas, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. For the 26-year-old right-hander, it’s another shot with the big league club after two earlier call-ups this season that never really had time to breathe.

Dallas has already been through the stop-and-start routine once. His first promotion turned into just one appearance, his MLB debut.

The second call-up didn’t get him into a game at all. Now, with a fresh opportunity in hand, the Blue Jays pitching prospect gets a real chance to show he can stay.

Dallas was Toronto’s fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, and at one point he climbed as high as No. 15 in the organization’s prospect rankings, per MLB Pipeline. The path to this point wasn’t smooth, though. He had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow near the end of 2024, which wiped out his entire 2025 season.

Back healthy in 2026, Dallas started the year with Triple-A Buffalo and put together a solid body of work: a 3.44 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 18 walks and 48 strikeouts over 49.2 innings in 14 appearances, including 10 starts. It was his best stretch since his breakout 2023 season, when he went 9-3 with a 3.65 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 144 strikeouts in 123.1 innings across 23 starts.

His lone appearance for Toronto this year came on Jun. 4 against the Atlanta Braves, and he made it count. Dallas allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out two over 3.2 innings, and he picked up his first major league win in the process.

This time, Dallas will be hoping the Blue Jays have a harder time sending him back down.

Blue Jays Linked To A Deadline Bat Yankees Could Also Chase

With the trade deadline approaching, the Blue Jays are once again being mentioned in the same breath as a rival that rarely makes life easy for them. The latest speculation has Toronto and the Yankees eyeing the same kind of upgrade, a bat that could help in the middle of the lineup and give a contender a little more certainty as the market starts to take shape.

The appeal is obvious on offense, where the player in question has been one of the brighter spots this season and could be viewed as the top second-base option available. The catch, as always, is whether the glove can keep pace with the bat, and whether the recent defensive uptick is something clubs can trust if they decide to push in before the deadline. Blue Jays Coach Sees One Troubling Issue Behind Vladdys Slump

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.s season has been defined by a swing that just has not looked like itself, and the Blue Jays have spent plenty of time trying to figure out why. Toronto batting coach David Popkins believes the issue starts with timing, saying the mechanics are there but the pieces are not syncing up the way they should, which helps explain the lack of consistent contact and the dip in power that has followed.

The encouraging part for the Blue Jays is that Guerrero has shown flashes of the old damage in recent days, a reminder of how quickly the tone around the lineup can change when he gets right. Toronto still needs more than a brief spark, though, and the bigger question is whether this is the start of a real turnaround or just another short burst in a season that has been hard to pin down.
