The Toronto Blue Jays are heading toward a crossroads with less than two weeks left before the trade deadline, and Daulton Varsho looks like one of the names most likely to move.
Toronto sat six games behind the Boston Red Sox for the third and final AL Wild Card spot as of Friday, a slide fueled in part by rough stretches from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer. If the Blue Jays decide to sell, it would be a tough outcome only a year after they reached the World Series.
The likeliest path is dealing impending free agents, and Varsho fits that bill. The Gold Glove outfielder has posted a .678 OPS in 90 games this season, but his market value still appears strong.
“[Daulton] Varsho is the Blue Jays’ one expiring player who is both unlikely to re-sign in Toronto and, despite recent struggles, will have significant value on the trade market. Any deadline selling from Toronto will include a Varsho trade,” The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon wrote.
Varsho, 30, was much more productive offensively in 2025, when he played 71 games and delivered 20 home runs, 55 RBIs and an .833 OPS.
He also has a solid postseason résumé, even with last year’s World Series struggles. In the ALCS against the New York Yankees, Varsho hit .438 with two homers and four RBIs in 17 plate appearances.
With that kind of track record and a left-handed bat, Varsho could draw interest from teams looking for outfield help and another lefty presence in the lineup.
