Blue Jays Add Veteran Arm After World Series Heartbreak

Blue Jays bolster bullpen depth with veteran pitcher Austin Voth, eyeing a fresh start after last season's World Series heartbreaker.

The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up for another thrilling season, and while predicting the bullpen's final form is tricky, they certainly have intriguing options. After last year's heart-wrenching Game 7 World Series loss, the Blue Jays are eager to hit the ground running. Delayed from opening their regular season along with most teams, they made a strategic move to bolster their depth just before play begins.

The Blue Jays recently added right-handed pitcher Austin Voth to their roster, signing him to a minor-league deal. Voth, who was released by the Chicago White Sox after spring training, brings a wealth of experience to the table.

He's spent seven partial seasons in the majors and took his talents overseas last year, delivering a solid performance with a 3.96 ERA over 125 innings for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan. His stint in Nippon Professional Baseball included striking out 92 batters and allowing 129 hits, showcasing his potential value.

Voth's MLB journey has seen him pitch for the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, and Seattle Mariners, accumulating a career 4.70 ERA over 360 1/3 innings. Most of his appearances-168 out of 207-have come from the bullpen, giving the Blue Jays a versatile option for their pitching staff.

During his brief time with the White Sox this spring, Voth pitched two innings in the Cactus League, allowing one earned run and striking out two. After opting out of his minor-league contract, he now joins a team with high aspirations in the American League. While breaking into the Blue Jays' major league roster might be challenging, the opportunity for a fresh start could be just what Voth needs.

Blue Jays fans should keep an eye on Voth at Triple-A Buffalo early in the season. With the right adjustments and a bit of luck, he could become a valuable asset as the season progresses.
