The Astros are making a clear deadline statement by moving for a Gold Glove center fielder, and the target is Daulton Varsho.
Houston, which has surged back to the top of the AL West on MLB trade deadline day, has been hunting for outfield help for days. Most of the names tied to them were left-handed hitting outfielders, a reflection of just how badly that need had grown. “Daulton Varsho is close to going to the Astros, per source,” Bannon reports. “It's in medical review. The return will be starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti.”

Varsho is 30, bats left-handed, and is a free agent after this season, which makes him a pure rental for the Astros’ push. He’s sitting on a 4.60 ERA and remains under team control through the 2029 season. That kind of long-term value is exactly why the trade stands out.
