Alejandro Kirk Keeps Becoming A Bigger Part Of Blue Jays Culture

Alejandro Kirk steps off the baseball diamond to embrace his new role as both ambassador and shareholder for a Toronto brewery's latest Mexican-style lager.

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk has a new off-field role, and it fits him just as neatly as his on-field one. The 27-year-old two-time MLB All-Star is now a brand ambassador and shareholder for Banditos Mexican Lager, a Toronto-based beer that launched in 2024.

The partnership has already shown up around Ontario. Over the past few weeks, fans shopping in Longo’s or the LCBO may have spotted Kirk’s image on Banditos in-store displays, a sign that the Blue Jays fan favourite is now the face of the beer.

Banditos may sound like it comes from south of the border, but the brand was founded in Toronto by entrepreneur Anthony CK Thomas. His goal was to offer a Mexican-style cerveza that delivers the same crisp, easy-drinking profile people expect, while still being brewed in Ontario. That matters in a market where many of the best-known Mexican lagers sold in Canada are imported.

Thomas saw Kirk as the ideal way to introduce the brand to Blue Jays fans across the province. Kirk’s background in Tijuana, his career in Toronto and his popularity throughout Canada made him an obvious fit.

“This partnership felt natural to me right away," Kirk said in a press release. "Being from Mexico and now playing baseball in Canada, it is exciting to be part of a brand that brings those two worlds together."

For now, the Kirk connection hasn’t reached the Rogers Centre taps. But fans can already find Banditos tall cans at select Longo’s stores and LCBO locations across Ontario.

Blue Jays May Be Eyeing An AL East Answer For Rotation Woes

The Blue Jays spent the summer trying to shore up a rotation that has already been reshaped by the trade of Kevin Gausman and the uncertainty surrounding pending free agents Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer. After acquiring Jos Soriano from the Angels ahead of the 2026 trade deadline, Toronto has made clear it is looking for answers wherever it can find them, and the offseason figures to bring more movement as the front office tries to keep the pitching staff from thinning out any further.

One name now being floated in that search is Baltimore left-hander Trevor Rogers, with Bleacher Report linking him to Toronto as a possible fit on the open market. The idea makes sense on a team-specific level: the Blue Jays need innings, stability and a rotation piece they can count on beyond the short term, even if Rogers is far from the only arm who could land on their radar before winter is over. Blue Jays Bullpen Gamble Could Put Another Arm On The Bubble

The Blue Jays added another layer to their bullpen picture by bringing in veteran right-hander Paul Sewald after he was waived by the Diamondbacks. It is the kind of move that signals both urgency and caution at the same time, because Toronto is looking for help in the relief corps without pretending the fit comes with much certainty.

Sewalds season has been rough, and the Blue Jays are clearly banking more on depth than on immediate stability as they sort out the roster. To make room, Toronto will likely have to bump another reliever off the active mix, which turns a simple waiver claim into a larger bullpen decision with someone else now sitting on the bubble.
