Alejandro Kirk Is Giving The Blue Jays A Lift They Desperately Need

With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. struggling to find his power at home, Alejandro Kirk's revitalized bat is emerging as a crucial catalyst for the Blue Jays' playoff push.

The Toronto Blue Jays have spent much of this season searching for offense, and while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has struggled, Alejandro Kirk has started to supply exactly the kind of production they’ve needed.

Kirk has never been sold as a slugger, but he’s finding ways to turn contact into extra bases, and that has mattered for a team that has been starved for pop. Toronto is sitting a half-game out of a playoff spot going into Tuesday’s action, despite a lineup that has not generated much power.

That makes Kirk’s recent surge even more important. In Toronto’s current run, the club has won six straight series and worked its way back into the race, and Kirk has become a central part of that push. The Blue Jays have even used him at designated hitter on days when he isn’t catching.

His path back has not been simple. Kirk missed a long stretch after breaking his thumb when a foul ball ricocheted to the worst spot, and Brandon Valenzuela filled in during his absence.

When Kirk returned from the injured list, the timing wasn’t immediate, but that kind of reset usually takes time for a hitter to shake off. Now the 27-year-old looks fully settled in.

Over the Blue Jays’ last 30 games, Kirk has been phenomenal.

Even when he isn’t getting a hit, he’s rarely giving away an at-bat. In that stretch, he has struck out fewer times than he has walked or driven in runners, and Toronto has benefited from that steady approach at the plate.

And the hot streak isn’t fading. Kirk is batting nearly .400 over his last 15 games and .435 over his last seven, with an OPS well over 1.100 in both spans.

If the Blue Jays can get through this week with three games at the Trop against the Tampa Bay Rays and another three in the Bronx against the New York Yankees, they’ll be in the playoffs - and Kirk’s bat could be the one that gets them there.

Kevin Gausman's Early Exit Just Put New Focus On Blue Jays Trade

Kevin Gausmans outing at Wrigley Field ended earlier than anyone expected, and for Blue Jays fans the sight carried a little extra weight because it came so soon after the right-hander was moved from Toronto to the Cubs at the 2026 trade deadline. The trade already gave the Blue Jays a fresh point of evaluation on their side of the deal, but seeing Gausman forced out of a start in a new uniform quickly turned attention from the transaction itself to the kind of condition that can shape how a pitcher looks over the rest of a season.

Gausman later said the issue was a cramp in his left hand, the non-throwing one, and noted he has dealt with it before. What made this trip to the mound stand out was how early it arrived, cutting into the rhythm of a start before it could really settle into place. For Toronto, the immediate takeaway is less about one outing than about how a familiar arm now fits into the aftermath of a deadline move that is already being watched closely. [Read more 🡒]

Blue Jays Missed Ketel Marte Chance Suddenly Looks A Lot Better

The Blue Jays reported interest in Ketel Marte now carries a different kind of weight after the Diamondbacks put the infielder on the restricted list following his absence from a game against the Red Sox. Toronto was known to be in the mix when Martes name surfaced in trade conversation, but nothing ever got across the finish line, leaving the club to watch the situation from the outside.

Marte is expected to return to Phoenix for an MRI on his knee, and the uncertainty around when and where the injury happened only adds to the intrigue. For a Blue Jays team that had already wondered what it might have cost to land him, the latest twist makes the missed opportunity look a lot more complicated than it did even a few days ago.
