Alan Roden Stuns Fans as Twins Make Unexpected Roster Move

Promising slugger Alan Roden, once a top Blue Jays prospect, heads to Triple-A with the Twins after struggling at the major league level.

In a move that's sparking some chatter, Alan Roden, once a promising prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been optioned to the Minnesota Twins’ Triple-A team, the St. Paul Saints. This decision, largely influenced by his remaining options, might just be a strategic play to refine his skills further.

Roden, who made his mark after being drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2022 draft, quickly showcased his potential. His breakout season in 2023 was a testament to his talent, boasting a .317/.430/.459 slash line and knocking out 10 home runs over 532 plate appearances, earning a stellar 151 wRC+.

The following year, Roden continued to impress. Splitting his time between the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, he put up a solid .293/.391/.475 line, adding a career-high 16 home runs to his resume. Known for his hit-over-power approach, this power surge was a welcome development.

Breaking camp with the Blue Jays after a standout 2025 Spring Training, Roden seemed poised for success. He dazzled with a .407/.541/.704 slash line over 20 games, including two home runs in just 37 plate appearances.

However, his transition to the major league roster didn’t go as smoothly. In 113 plate appearances, he managed a .204/.283/.306 line with a single home run, struggling to find his footing.

Despite these challenges, Roden shone once again with the Buffalo Bisons, batting .331/.423/.496 and hitting three home runs in 142 plate appearances. His journey took another turn when he was traded to the Twins before the 2025 trade deadline, part of a deal that included Kendry Rojas in exchange for reliever Louis Varland and Ty France.

His stint with the Twins, however, was a tough one. Over 12 games, Roden's performance dipped, resulting in a .158/.200/.263 line with just one home run in 40 plate appearances.

While this move to Triple-A might seem like a setback, it could be the perfect opportunity for Roden to regain his form and confidence. With his potential still intact, the baseball world will be watching closely to see how he bounces back.
