Texas Tech is making waves this offseason with the addition of veteran tight end Jett Carpenter from Nevada, joining forces with returning senior standout Terrance Carter Jr. This duo positions the Red Raiders as one of the most formidable teams at the tight end position this spring.
Carter, who earned a spot on PFSN College’s top 10 returning Power Four tight ends list, is coming off an impressive season. With an overall PFF grade of 82.2, he ranked fourth nationally.
Last year, he appeared in all 12 games, securing 46 receptions and five touchdowns. In the Big 12 title game against BYU, he contributed three catches for 22 yards to Tech’s decisive 34-7 victory.
Carpenter, a seasoned player with stops at Eastern Washington and Nevada, brings his talents to Lubbock for his final collegiate year. Last season, he recorded 35 catches for 374 yards and two touchdowns with the Wolfpack. His arrival bolsters an already deep tight end roster, especially with the departure of senior Johncarlos Miller II, who made nine catches for 77 yards last season.
The Red Raiders' tight end competition extends beyond their roster, with Kansas State's Garrett Oakley and UCF's Dylan Wade also making their mark. Oakley, a senior, delivered 38 catches for 389 yards and six touchdowns for the Wildcats last year, including standout performances against TCU and Texas Tech.
Meanwhile, Wade, after transferring from Maryland, shone for UCF with a career-high 43 receptions for 523 yards and five touchdowns. Despite UCF’s quarterback carousel, Wade managed to thrive, and with James Madison transfer Alonza Barnett III now in the mix, the Knights are poised for an exciting season.
As spring unfolds, Texas Tech's tight end depth is a storyline to watch, with Carter and Carpenter leading the charge. Their combined experience and skill set promise to keep defenses on their toes and fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming season.
