Reggie Virgil’s Journey from the MAC to the Senior Bowl Spotlight
Reggie Virgil’s college football journey hasn’t followed the straightest path-but it’s been one worth watching. After a quiet start to his career in the MAC, Virgil found his stride in 2024 and hasn’t looked back since. Now, he’s headed to the 2026 Senior Bowl, looking to cap off a strong two-year run and prove he belongs at the next level.
Let’s rewind a bit. Virgil spent three seasons at Miami (Ohio), but it wasn’t until his final year there that he truly broke out.
In 2024, he hauled in 41 catches for 816 yards and nine touchdowns. That kind of production doesn’t go unnoticed, and it earned him a shot at the Power Five level with Texas Tech.
The move to the Big 12 brought new challenges-and new opportunities. Virgil didn’t quite match the eye-popping efficiency he had in the MAC, but he still put together a solid season with the Red Raiders: 57 receptions for 705 yards and six touchdowns.
And while it was only two carries, he made the most of them-35 yards and two scores. That kind of versatility doesn’t always show up on a stat sheet, but coaches and scouts notice.
Now, he’s one of five Texas Tech players invited to the 2026 Senior Bowl, and one of just two wideouts from the program making the trip. This is his chance to show NFL evaluators what he’s all about-on the field, in meetings, and throughout a week that can make or break draft stock.
Virgil’s path hasn’t been the most conventional. But that’s part of what makes him intriguing.
He’s shown he can adapt, grow, and produce at different levels of competition. He’s shown flashes of explosiveness, the ability to stretch the field, and a knack for finding the end zone.
And now, with a national stage in front of him, he has one more opportunity to prove he’s ready for the pros.
The Senior Bowl is packed with talent-every player there earned their spot. But for Reggie Virgil, this week is more than just a showcase.
It’s a statement. A chance to remind everyone watching that the last two seasons were no fluke-and that he’s just getting started.
