Texas Tech Pass Rush Gives Fans Another Reason To Celebrate

Texas Tech's relentless defense doesn't just secure a win-it keeps the cause alive with a powerful sack total that benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Texas Tech’s defense kept piling up sacks Saturday, and the Red Raiders’ effort did more than slow Arizona down in a 34-26 win. It also pushed the season total to 25 while helping raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Southwest, formerly the RMDH Charities of the Southwest.

Noah Fifita took the brunt of it. Texas Tech brought him down five times, with the pass rush showing up in key moments all afternoon.

The first came in the opening quarter at 12:11, when Arizona had a 3rd-and-goal at the TTU8. OLB Trey White got to Fifita at the TTU18 for a 10-yard loss, and the Wildcats had to settle for a field goal.

Later in the first, with Arizona facing third-and-11, true freshman OLB LaDamion Guyton dropped Fifita for a six-yard loss at 5:59, forcing a punt.

The Red Raiders kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter. At 10:28, LB John Curry sacked Fifita at the TTU33 for a five-yard loss, turning the situation into a 3rd-and-16. Then at 3:47, DL AJ Holmes Jr. shut down another drive with a sack on the AZ23, setting up a 4th-and-20 and another Arizona punt.

Texas Tech’s final sack came with 1:44 left, when LB Austin Romaine and DL Mateen Ibarogba combined to take Fifita down on the AZ41, leaving the Wildcats with a 3rd-and-11.

Fans can still donate for every Red Raider sack, with four regular-season games left and a chance for more in the postseason.

Texas Tech Athletics has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest for more than 25 years, and every sack adds to the total raised. Fans can pledge any dollar amount for each sack Texas Tech records this season through the Quarterback S.A.C.K. website.

The money goes to families who need it most. The Ronald McDonald House in Lubbock gives families a place to stay while a child receives medical care, including newborns in the NICU, children going through cancer treatment, and others needing medical care. Families from Covenant Children’s and UMC Children’s can also use Ronald McDonald Family Rooms inside the hospitals for a break, along with showers, laundry, coffee, snacks, and other basic needs.

BYU Faces A Defining Big 12 Test With Playoff Stakes Rising

November has arrived with the Big 12 suddenly looking like one of the most crowded playoff races in the country. With five ranked teams entering the month, the conference has a chance to sort itself out in a hurry, and Utah, BYU and Texas Tech are among the clubs with legitimate cases to stay in the College Football Playoff conversation. The first CFP rankings are due this week, which should offer an early read on how the committee views a league that has spent the fall building depth and credibility.

For Texas Tech, that makes the next stretch especially relevant, even if the Red Raiders are not the only team with something to prove. The conference schedule is about to start separating contenders from the pack, and the outcomes around the league could shape how much room there is for a Big 12 team to climb. BYUs upcoming tests are part of that picture too, with every result carrying more weight now that the playoff field is beginning to take shape. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Techs Opener Puts Early Pressure On Three Key Red Raiders

Texas Tech opens its season at home against Jackson State with Grant McCasland looking to get a feel for how his roster fits together right away. The spotlight naturally falls on three players who shape so much of what the Red Raiders want to be this year: point guard Cruz Davis, forward Darrion Williams and center Bassala Bagayoko. Each brings a different piece to the puzzle, and the opener offers an early chance to see how quickly that mix can settle in.

Bagayoko, in particular, carries some of the clearest pressure entering the night because Texas Techs frontcourt size and rebounding remain a concern. His presence is expected to help answer both, while Davis and Williams will be counted on to steady the offense and give the Red Raiders balance on both ends. For a team trying to define its identity from the start, the first game is less about polish than about whether those three can set the tone. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Tech Opens With One Rotation Question Fans Can't Ignore

Texas Tech heads into its Nov. 2 opener against Jackson State with the kind of early-season roster puzzle that tends to linger until the first few games sort it out. The Red Raiders have spent the preseason sorting through roles around Cruz Davis, Darrion Williams, Bassala Bagayoko and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, with injuries forcing some positional shuffling and leaving the staff to balance fit, depth and continuity at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.

The broad outlines are clear enough for now, but one rotation question still hangs over the lineup picture and could shape how Texas Tech starts the season on CBS Sports Network. With several players expected to shoulder expanded responsibilities, the Red Raiders are trying to settle on the right mix before conference-level stakes arrive, and the answer may not be fully obvious until the first real minutes are in the books.
