Texas Tech Just Missed On A Recruitment Fans Took Personally

Lucai Anderson chooses Michigan over Texas Tech, marking a new chapter in the Anderson family's basketball legacy.

Texas Tech fans who had already pictured another Anderson running the show in Lubbock got a tough update Wednesday. Lucai Anderson, the younger brother of former Red Raiders standout Christian Anderson, has committed to Michigan, according to multiple social media sources.

That decision shuts the door on what many around Texas Tech had assumed could be a natural reunion. Lucai spent multiple years playing prep basketball in the Lubbock area while Christian was starring for the Red Raiders, and that proximity fed the belief that he might eventually follow the same path. Instead, he’s headed to Ann Arbor.

There is, though, one strange twist in all of this: Lucai is tracing a route that looks a lot like his brother’s. Christian originally signed with Michigan in November 2023, but after Juwan Howard lost the head coaching job in Ann Arbor, he backed out of that commitment and ended up signing with Texas Tech.

NEWS: 2027 prospect Lucai Anderson has committed to Michigan, according to a source.

The 17 year-old IMG starting PG is the brother of Charlotte Hornets guard Christian Anderson and the first HS commitment in the 2027 class for Mike Boynton and the Wolverines.

Christian’s time in Lubbock became the kind of run that makes a family name stick. Over two seasons, he played in 68 games and averaged 14.5 points and 4.7 assists. Then came the breakout sophomore year, when he put up 18.5 points and 7.4 assists per game, earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and landed on the Associated Press third-team All-American list.

That surge made his next move obvious. Christian entered the NBA draft this offseason, went No. 18 overall and is now in position for a major rookie role with the Charlotte Hornets. He flashed early in the preseason, too, scoring 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, with two of those baskets coming from beyond the arc, which was his calling card at Texas Tech.

Lucai arrives at Michigan with plenty of attention of his own. He is a 4-star prospect and ranks No. 84 overall in the 247Sports.com class rankings. That’s actually a stronger high school ranking than Christian had, since the older Anderson came out of high school as the No. 113 player in the class of 2024.

Texas Tech did make a run at Lucai. The Red Raiders offered him a scholarship in April, and he also drew interest from Alabama, Arizona State, Villanova, UCF, Georgia Tech, Butler and Southern Cal.

In the end, Michigan won the battle, and Lucai will join a program going through change. The Wolverines lost head coach Dusty May to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, and former Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton is now the man in charge in Ann Arbor.

Texas Tech, meanwhile, already has one commitment in the 2027 class. Aaron Britt Jr., a 4-star point guard from Florida, pledged to the Red Raiders last month. Britt and Anderson both play the same position, which leaves open the possibility that the fit mattered in Lucai’s decision.

For Red Raider fans, the bigger sting is simpler than all of that. Christian Anderson became one of the most popular Texas Tech players of the past decade, and plenty of people had hoped Lucai would keep the family line going in the same colors.

That won’t happen now. Lucai Anderson is carving out his own path, and it starts at Michigan.

Texas Tech Homecoming Just Added A Powerful Pregame Moment

Texas Techs homecoming weekend already had a big-game feel, and now it will carry an added layer of pageantry before kickoff. Four Red Raider alumni serving in the Texas Army National Guards 36th Combat Aviation Brigade are set to take part in a flyover ahead of the football game against Arizona State at Galaxy Stadium, where the crowd is expected to be packed for the 2:30 p.m. start.

The pregame moment will feature two Chinook helicopters and two Blackhawks, giving the celebration a military tribute tied directly to the schools own alumni. The flyover is also part of a broader homecoming visit, with stops planned at UMC Childrens Hospital for pediatric patients, giving the weekend a meaningful touch beyond the noise and spectacle surrounding the sold-out stadium. Arizona State Now Has One More Texas Tech Threat To Worry About

Thomas Castellanos is back in the mix for Texas Tech at just the right time, giving the Red Raiders another option as they prepare for Arizona State. A Jefferson Circuit Court judge granted him an injunction, restoring his eligibility after a Kentucky judge had dissolved a previous temporary restraining order that left him unavailable.

For a Texas Tech team trying to stack advantages heading into a matchup like this, getting Castellanos cleared changes the conversation around the offense and the game plan. Arizona State now has one more threat to account for, and the Red Raiders suddenly have a little more room to sort out how they want to attack. [Read more 🡒]

Sonny Dykes Enters A Pressure Game TCU Fans Can't Ignore

With three Big 12 coaches facing rising scrutiny, the pressure around this stretch of the season is hard to miss. Sonny Dykes has TCU heading into a rivalry game against Baylor, while Deion Sanders is trying to steady Colorado after the odd play-sheet controversy and a losing streak that has only sharpened the spotlight on his program.

From a Texas Tech perspective, Joey McGuires situation is part of the same larger conversation. The Red Raiders are trying to protect an undefeated record, but every week that kind of start comes with more attention and less margin for error, especially when the coaches around them are being measured against expectations that seem to get heavier by the day.
