Texas Tech's offense is gearing up for an impressive season, with seven returning offensive players ready to build on last year's Big 12 Championship. With three starting offensive linemen back in action and a wealth of skill position talent, the Red Raiders are poised for another strong run at the title. Offensive Coordinator Mack Leftwich must be eager to see this group take the field as spring camp kicks off.
The quarterback position is under the spotlight with Brenden Sorsby stepping in after transferring from Cincinnati. With Will Hammond sidelined for an extended period in 2026, Tech brought in former Tulsa QB Kirk Francis, who has 14 games under his belt from the past two seasons.
While Hammond might return later in the season, a medical redshirt remains a possibility due to his injury. Meanwhile, Lloyd Jones, entering his second year at Tech, showed promise in late-game situations and could give Francis a run for the backup spot.
The running back room was a force in 2025, thanks to Cameron Dickey and J'Koby Williams, who combined for over 1,800 rushing yards. Dickey delivers power, while Williams adds versatility and big-play potential both on the ground and in the air. The return of Quinten Joyner, who missed last season due to injury, further bolsters this already impressive unit.
At tight end, Terrance Carter Jr. returns after a solid season with 46 receptions, 452 yards, and five touchdowns. Joining him is Jett Carpenter, a transfer from Nevada, who added 35 catches for 375 yards and two TDs last year.
Wide receiver Coy Eakin is back, having snagged 47 passes for 626 yards and six touchdowns. The receiving corps is further strengthened by returning players like Micah Hudson, Michael Dever, and others. Tech also benefited from the transfer portal, adding talents like Kenny Johnson from Pittsburgh and Donte Lee Jr. from Liberty, among others.
On the offensive line, the Red Raiders welcomed transfer Jordan Church, a 6'4", 310-pound guard expected to start at right guard. He joins returning players like Senior Tackle Howard Sampson and Senior Center Sheridan Wilson, forming a formidable front. With promising underclassmen like Felix Ojo, one of Tech's top recruits, the line is deep and ready to protect the backfield.
All signs point to Texas Tech being a formidable offensive force this season, with depth and talent across the board. Keep an eye on this team as they aim to make waves in the Big 12 once again.
