TCU football is on the verge of solidifying its future with head coach Sonny Dykes, as both parties are nearing a contract extension agreement. Athletics director Mike Buddie had hinted at this development back in February, and now Dykes has provided a fresh update as spring camp kicks off.
“We’re just about there,” Dykes shared, indicating that the final touches are being put on the legal details. This extension marks another chapter in Dykes' successful tenure at TCU, where he boasts a 36-17 record over four seasons. His impressive run includes a national championship game appearance and a memorable College Football Playoff victory over Michigan in 2022.
Dykes' previous extension in December 2022 secured his contract through 2028. Despite a challenging 5-7 season in 2023, he has since guided the Horned Frogs to consecutive nine-win seasons, culminating in a No. 25 ranking in last year’s final Associated Press Top 25 after a strong finish to the season.
Securing this deal is crucial for Dykes as he looks to focus solely on the upcoming season. “You don’t want to be distracted by contract talks during the season,” he explained.
“We decided to address it after the season, and now we’re almost there. I’m thrilled about the direction we’re heading.
Every day, I’m eager to get to work.”
With this extension, TCU and Dykes are setting the stage for continued success, aiming to build on their recent achievements and further cement their status in college football.
