Kliff Kingsbury Joins Rams as Sean McVay's New Right-Hand Man

Kliff Kingsbury's NFL journey continues as he brings his offensive expertise to the Los Angeles Rams, joining forces with head coach Sean McVay.

Kliff Kingsbury is making headlines once again, this time joining the Los Angeles Rams as their assistant head coach. After a stint as the Washington Commanders' offensive coordinator, Kingsbury is set to bring his offensive expertise to Sean McVay’s staff.

Kingsbury's name was in the mix for several high-profile roles this offseason. He was considered for head coach and offensive coordinator positions with the Baltimore Ravens and had discussions with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants about their offensive coordinator vacancies. However, he ultimately chose to team up with McVay in Los Angeles, adding another strategic mind with head coaching experience to the Rams’ offensive team.

For fans of Texas Tech, Kingsbury’s career is a fascinating journey. From his days as a star quarterback to his tenure as head coach of the Red Raiders from 2013 to 2018, Kingsbury has always been a part of the football conversation.

His move to the NFL saw him lead the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022. After a challenging 4-13 season in 2022, Kingsbury took on a role as a senior offensive analyst at USC under Lincoln Riley in 2023 before returning to the NFL with the Commanders.

Kingsbury’s contributions to Texas Tech were honored in 2023 with his induction into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame, alongside his former head coach, the late Mike Leach. This recognition celebrates his impact on shaping the Red Raiders’ offensive identity in the early 2000s.

Interestingly, Kingsbury isn’t the only former Red Raider making waves in the NFL this year. Davis Webb, who played under Kingsbury at Texas Tech and amassed 5,557 passing yards, was recently promoted to offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos after serving as quarterbacks coach under Sean Payton.

Kingsbury’s journey is anything but straightforward, but it’s clear his story is still unfolding. His new role with the Rams adds another intriguing chapter to his evolving career, continuing to build on his deep roots in Lubbock.
