Texas Tech's head coach, Grant McCasland, couldn't hide his admiration for Josiah Moseley after the young forward's performance against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Moseley, stepping up in a crucial moment for the Red Raiders, showcased his potential on the court, leaving a lasting impression on McCasland.
What really caught McCasland's eye wasn't just Moseley's on-court performance, but a pivotal off-court moment during a timeout. Moseley's approach and interaction with his teammates during this break was a defining moment for the coach.
With the season nearing its end and JT Toppin sidelined, Texas Tech is in dire need of contributions from its younger players. Moseley's emergence is timely and crucial for the team's success.
In the postgame press conference, McCasland highlighted Moseley's raw talent, noting that while he's brimming with potential, he simply hasn't had enough practice time to fully harness it. Despite limited reps, Moseley is beginning to shine.
“He’s got a lot of talent, it’s just we haven’t been able to practice it,” McCasland remarked. “He’s the one that’s practiced the least out of all those guys and he’s just turning up, man.”
Moseley's performance, with six points, four rebounds, and three blocks in just 16 minutes, was impressive. However, for McCasland, the standout moment was Moseley stepping up during a timeout to communicate with his team for the first time.
“He came out of the game into one of the timeouts talking,” McCasland explained. “It was the first time I’d heard him talk to the team out of a time out. I was like ‘now we’re talking.’”
Looking ahead, developing Moseley's potential is a clear priority for Texas Tech. McCasland sees a high ceiling for the young forward, one that is yet to be fully realized. As Moseley continues to grow, he could become an essential asset for the Red Raiders.
