Houston Eyes Heisman-Contending Playmaker

Louisvilles Isaac Brown showcases blistering speed and agility, positioning him as a potential game-changer for a Texans offense in need of backfield dynamism.

Louisville’s Isaac Brown is starting to look like the kind of back who can flip a defense in one touch, and that’s exactly why he belongs on the Houston Texans’ radar for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Brown delivered a monster Week 6 against Florida State, rolling up 235 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. The headline moment came in the second quarter, when he ripped off a 97-yard touchdown that lit a fire under Louisville’s offense. The Cardinals finished the day with 44 points.

That kind of explosion is the selling point. At five-foot-nine and 190 pounds, Brown is a junior with rare juice and a real chance to become one of the most dangerous open-field runners in the class.

He’s being pegged as the fastest running back in the country and is expected to put up a sub-4.3 40-yard dash next offseason. Once he gets into space, he’s gone.

But the speed is only part of the package. Brown also brings the kind of sudden movement that makes defenders miss in a phone booth.

He hits top gear fast, can stop on a dime, and shows enough vision and patience to find creases before he blasts through them. His open-field style is slippery and electric, with the burst and juke/spin moves to turn routine plays into problems for a defense.

He’s already forced 27 missed tackles in 2026, and even when penetration shows up early, he can still survive the chaos with one quick cut. That kind of escape ability keeps negative plays from swallowing drives.

The knock on Brown is just as clear: he isn’t built to be a hammer. He’s not the kind of back who wants to live between the tackles, and he won’t consistently run through contact. His value comes from elusiveness, not power, which means he needs a bigger, sturdier partner beside him.

That’s where Houston comes in. David Montgomery fits the complementary role described here, even at 29 years old. His power and ability to run through the middle of a defense would mesh with Brown’s big-play speed.

And the Texans need that kind of dynamic element. Their current backfield doesn’t offer it, leaving CJ Stroud exposed on early downs and taking away some of the threat from the ground game.

Woody Marks is solid, but not the sort of player who scares a defense by himself. Brown would bring the kind of explosive presence Houston is missing.

Texas Tech Homecoming Just Added A Powerful Pregame Moment

Texas Techs homecoming weekend already had a big-game feel, and now it will carry an added layer of pageantry before kickoff. Four Red Raider alumni serving in the Texas Army National Guards 36th Combat Aviation Brigade are set to take part in a flyover ahead of the football game against Arizona State at Galaxy Stadium, where the crowd is expected to be packed for the 2:30 p.m. start.

The pregame moment will feature two Chinook helicopters and two Blackhawks, giving the celebration a military tribute tied directly to the schools own alumni. The flyover is also part of a broader homecoming visit, with stops planned at UMC Childrens Hospital for pediatric patients, giving the weekend a meaningful touch beyond the noise and spectacle surrounding the sold-out stadium. Arizona State Now Has One More Texas Tech Threat To Worry About

Thomas Castellanos is back in the mix for Texas Tech at just the right time, giving the Red Raiders another option as they prepare for Arizona State. A Jefferson Circuit Court judge granted him an injunction, restoring his eligibility after a Kentucky judge had dissolved a previous temporary restraining order that left him unavailable.

For a Texas Tech team trying to stack advantages heading into a matchup like this, getting Castellanos cleared changes the conversation around the offense and the game plan. Arizona State now has one more threat to account for, and the Red Raiders suddenly have a little more room to sort out how they want to attack. [Read more 🡒]

Sonny Dykes Enters A Pressure Game TCU Fans Can't Ignore

With three Big 12 coaches facing rising scrutiny, the pressure around this stretch of the season is hard to miss. Sonny Dykes has TCU heading into a rivalry game against Baylor, while Deion Sanders is trying to steady Colorado after the odd play-sheet controversy and a losing streak that has only sharpened the spotlight on his program.

From a Texas Tech perspective, Joey McGuires situation is part of the same larger conversation. The Red Raiders are trying to protect an undefeated record, but every week that kind of start comes with more attention and less margin for error, especially when the coaches around them are being measured against expectations that seem to get heavier by the day.
